Millions of Consumers Could Have Been Affected by Marriott Starwood Data Breach

The Marriott Starwood data breach might have involved leaked details of 500 million people within the Marriott Starwood reservation system, exposing those affected consumers to the risk of identity theft.

Increasing concern about lack of appropriate security protocols has led to many consumers having their personal information leaked in hacks. Major companies have been accused of not doing enough to protect their security programs that collect information such as a person’s name, credit card details, addresses, and more. The Marriott Starwood data breach is one of the latest.

According to the most recent news reports released about the Marriott Starwood data breach, large quantities of personal information could have been leaked to hackers in the hotel system. Victims now allege that the Marriott Starwood data breach could have been avoided if Marriott had done their due diligence and taken precautionary steps to enhance the security of the internal systems.

Some victims of the Marriott Starwood data breach have already filed a class action lawsuit. Marriott says that approximately 327 million victims might have had compromised details, such as their names, addresses and passport numbers leaked in the breach.

Insurance company representatives claim that the interconnectedness of business entities inside a hotel, such as dry cleaning services, business centers, shops, restaurants and more, means that breaches such as the Marriott Starwood data breach may have far reaching implications and pose significant threats.

Those consumers who might have been affected by the Marriott Starwood data breach include those who stayed at certain Starwood hotels between 2014 and Nov. 30, 2018 including Aloft Hotels, Element Hotels, W Hotels, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, Western Hotels and Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton, and Design Hotels.

Individuals who booked a reservation at any one of those Starwood hotels could be eligible to join a Marriott Starwood data breach class action investigation.
