In Lawsuit, Michigan Patient Says Biomet Magnum Hip Implant Is DefectiveJames Milligan of Nevada has recently filed a hip implant lawsuit against Zimmer, a company that creates metal on metal hip implant devices.  After suffering problems with his hip, Milligan opted to have hip replacement surgery, which occurred on January 12, 2009.  During the time of his surgery, Milligan received the Zimmer FullCoat stem (size 13) and Trilogy cup 64.  He claims that after the hip replacement surgery was completed, he began experiencing a lot of pain — so much pain that it affected his daily life.

Details of this Zimmer Hip Implant Lawsuit

Milligan went in for an x-ray on September 29, 2011, which revealed there was a significant problem with the Zimmer hip implant he received. The stem of the metal hip implant was broken, which meant he then had to have a second surgery performed on December 5, 2011.  The surgery replaced the broken stem of the artificial hip.  The Zimmer hip implant lawsuit filed by Milligan seeks damages caused by the faulty hip replacement device.  The man alleges that he has suffered very severe and permanent injuries resulting from the broken stem.  He also states that he will have to incur more expenses related to medical care in the future.

Milligan is seeking compensation that will allow him to pay for his past and future healthcare charges.  He is also looking for compensation over the fact that he has also faced a loss of income and general damages because of the Zimmer FullCoat stem device.  Zimmer has already had trouble with their Durom Cup hip replacement implant.  In fact, Zimmer recalled the device and then prepared to face countless Zimmer hip implant lawsuits with regards to that hip implant device.

Hip Implant Manufacturer is No Stranger to Zimmer Hip Implant Lawsuits

Currently it is unclear whether patients who have a device similar to the Zimmer FullCoat have experienced anything along the lines of what Milligan went through.  However, other hip stem device manufacturers have found themselves defending hip implant lawsuits filed by patients who were injured by similar stem devices.  One manufacturer, Stryker Orthopaedics, actually recalled two metal hip replacement systems that used the stem after reports of injury, corrosion, metal poisoning and premature implant failures from patients.

Zimmer Sets Money Aside for Those Who Will Need Future Surgeries to Counteract Metal Hip Implant Side Effects

In response to Zimmer hip implant lawsuits over the Durom Cup hip replacement implant, Zimmer had set aside an amount of $271.7 million for the patients who might need additional surgery.  If you or someone you know has experienced malfunctions with metal on metal hip implant devices, you may qualify for compensation.  Talk to a legal professional regarding your options.
