Pradaxa Lawsuit News: Hundreds of Pradaxa Bleeding Lawsuits Could Move to Central Federal Court

Pradaxa users who have suffered internal bleeding after taking the blood-thinning medication are being notified there could be a faster way to seek compensation for their Pradaxa injuries depending on a decision due later this month. The decision would create one central federal court where as many as 500 Pradaxa lawsuit could be filed, which would expedite the litigation process and help victims share in valuable evidence that Pradaxa use caused severe injuries such as internal bleeding, hemorrhaging and even death.

Anyone who has suffered Pradaxa bleeding or lost a loved one after taking the medication is encouraged to speak with a Pradaxa lawyer about their legal rights as soon as possible. The Institute for Safety Medication Practices reported on June 6, 2012 that Pradaxa contributed to more deaths and bleeding reports to the FDA in 2011 than any other medication. Pradaxa users need to be aware of the risks associated with the medication and arm themselves with information on how to seek compensation from the drug manufacturer to cover their medical expenses, as well as pain and suffering.

Hundreds of Lawsuits Filed Over Pradaxa Side Effects

In December 2011, the FDA warned Pradaxa users that it would investigate the safety of Pradaxa after receiving more reports of injury and death from the drug than expected when it was approved for the market in 2010. Hundreds of Pradaxa bleeding lawsuits have been filed by patients who suffered Pradaxa side effects such as internal bleeding and hemorrhaging. Even family members of loved ones who died from Pradaxa internal bleeding have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the drug maker, Boehringer Ingelheim, claiming the company did not do enough to warn patients about the severe side effects of Pradaxa or the fact that no reversal agent is available if Pradaxa bleeding occurs.

Due the high number of Pradaxa lawsuits already filed, and the prediction that as many as 500 Pradaxa bleeding lawsuit could be filed, lawyers asked the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) May 30, 2012 to move all the cases to one federal court in the Southern District of Illinois, where they would be heard in a multidistrict litigation known as In Re: Pradaxa Product Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2385).

The JPML said it will decide the fate of the new Pradaxa lawsuit MDL on July 26, 2012. If the Pradaxa MDL is created, it would make it easier for patients to sue Boehringer Ingelheim for causing their Pradaxa injuries.

Pradaxa users have filed lawsuits alleging that the anticoagulant drug has severe undisclosed side effects which have killed patients. Pradaxa internal bleeding, wrongful death, or hemorrhage lawsuits typically allege that Boehringer Ingelheim did not adequately inform patients and their prescribing doctors of the risks of uncontrollable internal bleeding and hemorrhage associated with Pradaxa usage, nor did Boehringer Ingelheim warn or otherwise advise on how to intervene and stabilize a Pradaxa patient should a bleed occur after an accident or during surgery. Boehringer Ingelheim has stated that they are working on an antidote or treatment to help doctors when a Pradaxa patient is admitted with hemorrhage or severe internal bleeding.

Pradaxa Internal Bleeding Signs

It’s important that Pradaxa patients know the preliminary signs of internal bleeding. Common internal bleeding symptoms include pink or brown urine, red or black stools, bruises that happen without a known cause and may get larger, coughing up blood or blood clots and/or vomiting blood or vomit which includes particles that look like coffee grounds.
