Onglyza Heart FailureOnglyza, a popular diabetes drug, may for some users lead to a number of serious side effects, including Onglyza heart failure.

In response to a rising number of reports linking the drug with Onglyza heart failure and other dangerous complications, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement regarding these side effects.

The FDA has asked that manufacturers update Onglyza’s warning label to accurately reflect the increased risk of various dangerous associated with the diabetes drug.

Background of Onglyza

Onglyza (also known by its generic name, saxagliptin) is a diabetes drug jointly developed by pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Onglyza is intended as treatment for type 2 diabetes, and entered the market in 2009.

Onglyza belongs to a class of diabetes drugs known as incretin mimetics, which act to stimulate the release of insulin and help regulate a patient’s blood sugar level.

Though many diabetes drugs are linked with weight gain side effects, this is not a side effect associated with Onglyza. Many patients worried about weight gain from diabetes drugs have chosen Onglyza to avoid this complication.

However, Onglyza side effects may, unbeknownst to patients, include problems with much greater risk than weight gain.

Onglyza Heart Failure

The Onglyza manufacturers, AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb, have been warned by the FDA to include a warning about the increased risk of Onglyza heart failure to their warning labels.

Onglyza heart failure is a serious and potentially life-threatening medical condition in which the heart becomes so weak that it cannot adequately pump blood throughout the body. High blood pressure or coronary artery disease can eventually lead to heart failure by gradually weakening the heart.

Even if a patient survives Onglyza heart failure, the lasting effects may force them to make significant changes to their daily life in order to prevent further life-threatening problems.

Other Serious Onglyza Side Effects

Other dangerous side effects associated with Onglyza include pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer. The FDA has received reports regarding these potential side effects, which can be hard to detect, placing patients at risk of only being diagnosed in the later and more dangerous stages of the disease.

Onglyza Heart Failure Lawsuits

A growing number of diabetes patients are coming forward, alleging that Onglyza directly led to dangerous side effects, including Onglyza heart failure.

Some patients even choose to file lawsuits over Onglyza side effects against the manufacturers, AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb, for failing to adequately warn and inform the medical community and consumers of the serious risks of their drug.

If you or someone you know has suffered from Onglyza heart failure, cancer, or other serious side effects after using Onglyza, you may be able to take legal action.

While filing an Onglyza heart failure lawsuit may not fix the damage, it can help to alleviate the physical, emotional and financial losses felt as a result of using Onglyza.

In general, Onglyza lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
