Attempts to Remove Vaginal Sling Implant Were Unsuccessful

The AMS transvaginal mesh implant lawsuit states that the plaintiff had the AMS Monarch vaginal sling implanted in July of 2011 as a treatment for her stress urinary incontinence. Following the surgery, the woman claims she suffered serious complications as a direct result of the faulty vaginal sling implant. Complications included vaginal pain, repeated urinary tract infections, difficulty urinating and bleeding. The plaintiff’s complications were so severe that she had to make numerous trips to the emergency room. After enduring these complications, the woman plaintiff elected to have a second surgery to have the Monarch vaginal sling implant removed; however, surgeons were unable to completely remove it. As a result, pieces of the faulty vaginal mesh implant still remain entrenched in her vaginal lining.

Lawsuit Claims Device is Defective

The attorney who is representing the couple outlined in the AMS vaginal mesh implant lawsuit that the Monarch vaginal sling implant has a defective design that is not fit for its purpose and was not properly tested before being released on the market and subsequently implanted in patients. The couple is seeking compensation for the serious complications the wife has suffered as well as compensation for the husband who claims he has suffered from the loss of his wife’s services, companionship, financial support, affection and society.

Vaginal Mesh Implant Injuries on the Rise

Between 2008 and 2010, the FDA received over 1,500 harmful event reports caused by vaginal mesh implants. This number is five times the amount of reports from the previous two-year period. By July of 2011, the FDA had received another 2, 875 vaginal mesh injury reports. The FDA also revealed that there have been three deaths between 2005 and 2010 caused by complications of the device. The FDA has also reported that 10% of woman who have had a vaginal mesh implant have experienced complications within one year of having the surgery. I had the monarc sling put in back on 2008, this last year I have had boughts of severe gut pain when trying to have a bowel movement of soft stool, 4 UTI infections in a 6 month period, which then turned into 2 seperate kidney infections. Shortly after I ended up with Hpylori ( stomach infection). I have been on one antibiotic after another. In turn I just got over a “TERRIBLE “ bout of Cdiff, that was allowed in my system because all the antibiotics have destroyed all my good gut flora. There is a culprit somewhere in my body that is triggering all my infections. All the doctors want to do is to keep feeding me antibiotics, and when I so much as mention or question… is there a possibility the mesh “MIGHT” be what’s the trigger. Their quick to brush me off like I’m on a which hunt! I’m desperate to find out why my body is in such dissarray, and in the back of my mind I keep questioning if this mesh could be the culprit, and I can’t seem to find a doctor to pursue this avenue!

my wife has experienced the same problems. She can not travel more than to the md because of it. She wears two layers of depends all the time and I wash her clothes and bedding 3-4 times per day. She is now undergoing electrical shock treatment every 5 days for 12 weeks to try and stimulate her bladder. So far is has had no affect.

  4. Leitha A. Davis says:

I had Bladder Surgery in July 2010. They implanted the Monarch Bladder Sling. As years have gone on my incontinence has been worse. Now it is to the point of wearing protection daily for leakage. To me thats not the way it should be. I continue to take medicine High dosage for incontinence & have even had colegin injections that did not help at all. I recently was examined by the Surgeon who performed my surgery & says there is not a problem with the Sling. I am not agreeable with that. Would like to speak with someone who is familiar with the Legal End of these procedures & knows facts about these implants. Thank You.
