Canadian Propecia Class Action Lawsuits Good News for U.S. Users

By John Curran

Propecia class action lawsuitWhile Canada operates on a slightly different legal standard than the United States, the fact that a judge there certified a class action lawsuit against Merck & Co. regarding Propecia sexual dysfunction side effects is relatively important news.

The key reason is that it means there are enough men who have experienced problems like erectile dysfunction and other sexual side effects due to the main ingredient in Propecia — finasteride — to provide centralization. One upshot for Canadians is that when a class action lawsuit is certified, the drug maker is much more likely to settle rather than pay substantially higher damages if the trial is successful for the plaintiffs’ Propecia lawsuit attorneys. It may also mean that U.S. users of the drug will find similar success in having a Propecia class action lawsuit certified.

Speaking of foreign countries, it will be important in the U.S. for judges to decide whether or not European labeling requirements are a sign that Merck & Co. failed to warn victims of Propecia sexual side effects. For example, in Sweden the drug maker was required to update labeling that sexual side effects could continue even after men stopped taking finasteride-based products. In the U.S., the FDA has required similar labeling changes, but they have not yet been approved.

Hundreds of claims from men alleging they suffered sexual dysfunction from Propecia are currently being consolidated, and they are likely to grow as more awareness comes that these problems exist and do not go away. In addition, future Propecia lawsuits could skyrocket. The percentage growth of plaintiffs using Propecia injury attorneys has been in the double digits for the past few quarters.

Merck continues to argue that it properly advised patients of the risks involved with taking Propecia. However, studies have indicated that men who take the hair loss drug can face problems with erectile dysfunction side effects for an average of four years after stopping the medication. One man says that he has dealt with problems for more than a decade after stopping using the medication. Others say that the side effects have never gone away.

Men who have dealt with conditions like erectile dysfunction, low libido or other sexual side effects may want to consider filing their own lawsuit. Find out whether or not you are eligible to begin a case against the drug maker at the Propecia Loss of Sex Drive, Sexual Dysfunction Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Investigation. Trials are coming in the near future, so men should not delay in seeking the jury award or settlement that their claim merits.
