Whirlpool agreed to pay $21 million to resolve claims its dishwashers are prone to leaks.
The settlement benefits individuals who purchased or otherwise acquired certain Whirlpool dishwashers built between 2010 and 2018. A full list of models covered by the Whirlpool dishwasher settlement can be found on the settlement website.
Whirlpool manufactures several types of home appliances, including dishwashers.
In 2020, Whirlpool consumers filed a class action lawsuit against the company alleging the dishwashers are prone to leaks. According to the plaintiffs, the dishwashers leak due to faulty seals within the appliances.
“The dishwashers were and are equipped with a pump motor diverter shaft seal … oriented incorrectly, accelerating degradation of the seal and creating a buildup of debris that prevents the shaft seal spring from properly sealing the diverter shaft and sump,” the Whirlpool class action lawsuit says.
Whirlpool allegedly knew about this defect but failed to inform consumers or remedy the issue.
As a result, consumers such as the plaintiffs suffered from leaks and property damage, the class action contends. Plaintiffs say they had to pay out of pocket for repairs as a result of leaking dishwashers.
Whirlpool hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the claims against it with a $21 million settlement.
Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can receive cash payments of up to $225 in reimbursement for out of pocket repair expenses. These payments specifically reimburse customers for replacement or repairs of a dishwasher’s diverter motor or sump pump due to a diverter seal leak.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 17, 2022.
The Whirlpool dishwasher leak class action lawsuit settlement final approval hearing is scheduled for May 26, 2022.
In order to receive a payment from the settlement, Class Members must file a claim form by July 26, 2022.

20 thoughts onWhirlpool dishwasher leak $21M class action lawsuit settlement
I filed a claim almost 2 years ago and nothing but crickets. What a scam!
They are sending out rejection letters.
What kind of proof did you provide? Curious to see how much it takes to get approval. I gave receipts for my Kenmore, the repair parts, pictures/video of the repairs, photo of serial sticker, and recepit for replacement dishwasher as repairs were not enough. Still waiting for any word from the settlement. I assume I went overboard but who knows how picky/strict they are.
I put in a claim form in April 2022. I have not heard anything about the outcome of this class action. Have claims been paid?
I also submitted a claim in Jan 2022, and have heard nothing. I’ve sent several emails to the Administrator, along with several phone calls and receive no response.
Add me please
I have a 2008 that is like new but has always leaked. I have had several repair companies look at it, however the leak has never been found.
