Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) agreed to a $375,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to protect students and employees from a 2022 data breach.

The SCAD settlement benefits Savannah College students and employees whose personal information may have been compromised in the August 2022 data breach and who received a notice from Savannah College about the breach.

The August 2022 data breach allegedly compromised sensitive personal information of students and employees, including Social Security numbers and birth dates. According to the data breach class action lawsuit, Savannah College could have prevented the breach with reasonable cybersecurity measures.

Savannah College of Art and Design is an art school with locations in Savannah, Atlanta and more.

Savannah College hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $375,000 class action settlement to resolve the data breach allegations.

Under the terms of the SCAD data breach settlement, class members can receive a cash payment for lost time, data breach-related expenses and a flat rate payment.

The settlement allows for up to $125 in lost time payments, compensated at a rate of $25 per hour. Class members can also claim up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented data breach-related expenses such as credit costs, bank fees and more.

All class members may be able to receive a pro rata share of any remaining funds, estimated to be $50.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is July 10, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the SCAD class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 8, 2023.
