Between Feb. 16 and March 3, 2021, a data breach allegedly gained access to sensitive consumer and employee information held by Don Roberto Jewelers. According to a class action lawsuit, the jeweler’s negligence allowed hackers to gain access to Social Security numbers and other identifiers.

Under the terms of the jewelry company settlement, consumers can submit a claim for reimbursement if they experienced damages as a result of the Don Roberto data breach. Class members can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement, including payments for up to seven hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.

In addition to the reimbursement payments, class members who lived in California at the time of the data breach can receive a cash payment of $75. If these claims do not exceed the $1.25 million allocated for California payments, then each claimant could receive up to $750.

All class members are eligible to receive three years of free identity theft protection through Aura’s Financial Shield. Class members are also eligible for three years of identity restoration services from Aura.

If any funds remain in the settlement after payments are distributed, the money will be split equally between Consumer Watchdog and Veterans Legal Institute.

  1. Lisa Valadez says:

I wasn’t notified of a deadline as of last year . I was told to call every credit number such as experian & others i have so much going on with my health it caused me anxiety i was overwhelmed. But i was irrate when I received the letter stating I was a victim of identity theft DON ROBERTOS JEWELRY store . I feel we should have been given more time or help as to i am disabled myself .my identity was stolen and I have had accounts opened in other states and money taken from my debit card. I feel Don Roberto should be held responsible & should have not settled for 4 million. I will personally find my own attorney to help me do what’s right & get me what i deserve. I was never emailed about a lawsuit. I do have the letter from Don Robertos stating my identity was stolen.
