Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge data breach class action settlement

Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2020 data breach.

The settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was compromised in the Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge data breach between July 27, 2020, and July 30, 2020.

According to the class action lawsuit, Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge could have prevented a 2020 data breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures. However, because it failed to take such measures, hackers allegedly gained access to sensitive client information including Social Security numbers, insurance data and more.

Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge is an addiction treatment facility that offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. 

Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to $1,500 for economic losses related to the data breach and $150 for lost time, or six hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour.  

All class members are eligible to receive three years of free IDX credit monitoring and identity restoration services.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 26, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 10, 2023.
