Pape-Dawson Engineers agreed to a $250,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit stemming from a 2022 data breach that compromised personal information and protected health data.
The settlement benefits individuals who were identified by Pape-Dawson Engineers as being affected by the 2022 data breach.Â
According to the data breach class action lawsuit, Pape-Dawson failed to prevent a data breach discovered on Feb. 21, 2022. The data breach allegedly compromised Social Security numbers, medical information and other sensitive data.
Pape-Dawson Engineers is a civil engineering company that offers transportation, water, land development, environmental and surveying services.
Pape-Dawson hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $250,000 settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive $325 for ordinary expense reimbursement for bank fees, communication charges, credit costs and up to three hours of lost time compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.Â
Class members who experienced extraordinary data breach losses as a result of fraud or identity theft may be able to recover higher reimbursement payments of up to $4,000.
All class members can receive one year of free credit monitoring services through CyEx. These services include single-bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, $1 million insurance and other support.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 10, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 13, 2023.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 9, 2023.

Documentation required varies depending on the type of claim being made but may include third-party documents such as telephone or cellphone bills, gas receipts, postage receipts, bank account statements reflecting out-of-pocket expenses, and receipts or account statements reflecting credit-monitoring or identity-theft insurance services purchases.
