DoorDash agreed to a settlement with the City of Chicago to resolve claims it listed Chicago restaurants on its platform without a contractual relationship and without their consent.

The DoorDash settlement benefits Chicago-based restaurants that have nine or fewer locations operating under a common business name, were listed on DoorDash or Caviar marketplaces without a contractual relationship between Aug. 27, 2019, and Nov. 14, 2025, and do not have a current contractual agreement with DoorDash or Caviar.

DoorDash is a food delivery app that allows consumers to order food from local restaurants and have it delivered to their homes. Caviar is a similar service owned by DoorDash.

According to the city lawsuit, DoorDash and Caviar listed Chicago restaurants on their platforms without having a contractual relationship with the restaurants. The plaintiffs in the case say this practice violated Chicago’s ordinance governing third-party food delivery services.

The Chicago ordinance requires third-party delivery services to have a written agreement with restaurants before listing them on their platforms. The plaintiffs say DoorDash and Caviar violated this ordinance by listing restaurants without their consent.

DoorDash and Caviar have not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the DoorDash settlement, eligible restaurants can receive an equal share of the settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of participating restaurants, but no restaurant will receive more than $2,500.

To receive a settlement payment, restaurants must submit an attestation form confirming they meet the eligibility requirements. The deadline to submit this form is March 30, 2026.

The DoorDash settlement administrator will issue payments by the end of June 2026.
