Cameron Mutual Insurance agreed to pay $800,000 to resolve claims it refused to cover economic losses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The settlement benefits Missouri citizens who were covered by one of Cameron Mutual’s property insurance policies as of March 2020.
Business owners in the class action lawsuit accused Cameron Mutual of failing to cover COVID-19-related business losses. According to the class action lawsuit, Cameron Mutual’s policy terms required this coverage.Â
Cameron Mutual Insurance is an insurance company that offers insurance to business owners and farm owners.Â
Cameron Mutual hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to an $800,000 class action settlement to resolve the coronavirus coverage allegations.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive compensation for lost business income and extra expenses they incurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic between March 2020 and March 2021. Exact payments will vary depending on the losses claimed.
Claimants will need to include a support letter, 2019 and 2020 tax returns and other documentation of business losses and expenses.
The deadline for exclusion and objection was Feb. 17, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for April 12, 2023.
In order to receive settlement payments, class members must submit a valid claim form by April 3, 2023.
