Baer’s Furniture data breach class action settlement

A Baer’s Furniture settlement resolves claims the furniture retailer failed to protect consumers from a 2022 data breach.

The settlement benefits individuals whose information the August 2022 Baer’s Furniture data breach impacted.

According to the data breach class action lawsuit, Baer’s Furniture failed to take reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented a 2022 cyberattack. This breach allegedly impacted consumer and employee names, addresses, Social Security numbers and medical information, according to a letter sent to potential victims.

Baer’s Furniture is a Florida-based furniture and mattress retailer.

Baer’s Furniture hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Baer’s Furniture settlement, class members can receive up to $5,000 for unreimbursed losses and lost time. These losses may include travel expenses, bank fees, professional fees, credit costs and damages from fraud or identity theft. Class members are also eligible for two years of free credit monitoring services.

Instead of these benefits, class members may choose to receive a $50 alternative cash payment. These payments replace the unreimbursed loss payments, lost time payments and credit monitoring services.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 15, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the Baer’s Furniture settlement is scheduled for Dec. 5, 2024.

To receive Baer’s Furniture settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 16, 2024.
