Update:

  • The deadline to file a claim is now April 14, 2024.

Magic Money agreed to a $335,000 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to refund consumers who purchased currency to use at the Astroworld Festival in Houston Texas in November 2021.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased Magic Money for the Astroworld Festival 2021 and who did not receive a chargeback or refund for their purchase.

According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, the company should have provided refunds to consumers who purchased Magic Money as soon as the second day of the Astroworld Festival scheduled for November 2021 was canceled. The second day of the festival was canceled after a mass casualty event the night before in which 10 people died and hundreds were injured in a crowd crush.

Magic Money, now known as MagicTix, is a wristband-based payment platform used by fairs, venues, music festivals, sports events and other attractions.

Magic Money hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $335,000 settlement to resolve the Astroworld class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive an automatic refund of their Magic Money purchases to whichever debit or credit card was used.

Class members who paid with cash or another means will receive a settlement check if they provide proof of purchase.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 15, 2023.

Class members who wish to dispute their settlement payment amount must do so by May 19, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members who paid with cash or another method must submit a valid claim form by April 14, 2024.
