Drew’s LLC has reportedly agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations it labeled some of its products as “all natural” even though they contained synthetic ingredients.
If you purchased certain Drew’s All Natural salad dressings and/or marinades, you may be eligible to receive a cash refund from the class action settlement. The Drew’s products covered by this class action settlement include 12-ounce bottles of the following Drew’s salad dressings and marinades:
- Chipotle Ranch
- Creamy Buttermilk Ranch
- Greek Olive
- Honey Mustard
- Lemon Tahini Goddess
- Poppy Seed
- Raspberry
- Roasted Garlic & Peppercorn
- Romano Caesar
- Rosemary Balsamic
- Sesame Orange
- Shiitake Ginger
- Smoked Tomato
- Soy Ginger
- Thai Sesame Lime
- Thousand Island
The Drew’s class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Gherson Tovar in June 2016. Tovar took issue with Drew’s allegedly deceptive, unfair and false practices regarding the labeling of its All Natural Salad Dressings and Quick Marinades. The plaintiff claims that the products are not “all natural” because they contain citric acid and/or xanthan gum, which are both synthetic ingredients.
Tovar asserts that reasonable consumers would not expect to find synthetic ingredients in a product that is labeled as “all natural.” Even after reviewing the ingredients list, consumers would likely not be aware that xanthan gum and citric acid are not natural, the Drew’s class action lawsuit alleges.
Drew’s denies the allegations but agreed to settle the all natural class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of trial. The Drew’s class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Feb. 15, 2017.
Class Members who would like to opt out of or object to the Drew’s all natural settlement must do so no later than May 1, 2017.
