Lakeview Loan Servicing agreed to a $26 million class action settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2021 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.
The Lakeview Loan Servicing settlement benefits individuals who received a data breach notice from Lakeview Loan Servicing informing them that their personally identifiable information may have been compromised in a data breach on Oct. 11, 2021.
The Lakeview Loan Servicing data breach allegedly compromised sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, loan numbers and other personal identifiers. Plaintiffs in the data breach lawsuit claim Lakeview Loan Servicing could have prevented the breach through reasonable cybersecurity measures.
Lakeview Loan Servicing is a loan servicing company and the second largest mortgage servicer in the country.
Lakeview Loan Servicing has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $26 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Lakeview Loan Servicing settlement, class members can receive up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach. This includes identity theft damages, credit expenses, miscellaneous costs and up to two hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour. These payments may be reduced on a pro rata basis if the total amount of claimed expenses exceeds $5 million.
Class members can also receive a pro rata share of the class action settlement fund, the amount of which will depend on the number of claims filed with the settlement. California class members can receive an additional pro rata payment for claims under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
All class members are eligible for one year of free credit monitoring services through the settlement. Class members are eligible for these services even if they did not experience any out-of-pocket losses as a result of the data breach.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 11, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Lakeview Loan Servicing data breach settlement is scheduled for July 2, 2026.
To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 22, 2026.
