Dabur International Ltd. d/b/a Dabur USA Inc. sells over-the-counter hair straightener and relaxer products that contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals that are known to increase women’s chances of developing significant health problems, a class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiffs Carla G. Rose and Dollie Dillon filed the Dabur hair-relaxing class action lawsuit Nov. 16 in Illinois federal court. They claim they would not have purchased Dabur hair-straightening products if they had known that they may contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are known to increase a woman’s risk of developing many potential health issues, including but not limited to endometriosis, reproductive organ abnormalities, various cancers, respiratory issues, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular problems, the Dabur relaxing products class action explains.
Dabur sells hair relaxers and straighteners under various brand names, including ORS Olive Oil. The plaintiffs both claim that they purchased ORS Olive Oil products because they believed that they were “unadulterated, safe and effective.”
Rose and Dillon argue that Dabur did not disclose the presence of EDCs on the products’ labels as required by state and federal law.
FDA prohibits selling adulterated products without warning label, Dabur relaxing class action says
Hair straighteners and relaxers are marketed to women to make their hair smoother and easier to manage. The product is applied to the base of the hair shaft and left in place for a period of time.
The hair-straightening process must be repeated every few weeks to smooth the new growth of hair. Many women repeat this process every four to eight weeks over a period of decades, the Dabur relaxing products class action says. During this treatment, the body absorbs chemicals in the hair relaxers through direct skin contact.
Although the FDA does not need to approve cosmetic products and ingredients before they go to market, the agency prohibits the marketing of “adulterated” or “misbranded” cosmetics in interstate commerce, the plaintiffs say.
Product makers are responsible for assessing the safety and efficacy of their products and warning consumers if a health hazard may be associated with the product, the Dabur relaxing products class action alleges. Rose and Dillon claim that Dabur failed to warn consumers that their products may contain EDCs, potentially putting their health at risk.
The plaintiffs would not have purchased the products if they had known that there was a risk they may contain EDCs, the Dabur hair-relaxing products class action lawsuit alleges.
The plaintiffs ask the court to provide medical monitoring for class members who have used the Dabur products.
If you are a woman who developed uterine cancer after using hair-straightening products, you may qualify to participate in a hair-straightening lawsuit investigation.
The plaintiffs are represented by E. Samuel Geisler of Aylstock Witkin Kreis & Overholtz PLLC.
The Dabur hair-straightening class action lawsuit is Carla G. Rose, et al. v. Dabur International Ltd. d/b/a Dabur USA Inc., et al., Case No. 3:22-cv-02686, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

52 thoughts onDabur class action alleges hair-straightening, relaxing products can cause severe health issues
I’ve been using ORS products since I was 19, im 48 now. I currently have those products in my vanity. I had severely painful endometriosis along with cysts on my ovaries. I has 2 oblation procedures done on me to hopefully ease the pain, complete failure. Endometriosis was so painful I had to endure a partial hysterectomy before age 33. Very upsetting to say the least. I’ve had a dozen miscarriages, yes 12. Grateful to have been blessed with 6 children.
I would have never purchased any of those hair straightening products if I knew about the health risk. Dealing with severe hypertension is stressful enough so adding on all the miscarriages, endometriosis & ovarian cysts has truly had its painful impact on my family & I life. Angry that this pain could have been possibly prevented is disheartening & unacceptable. I need to be part of this lawsuit because they need yo be accountable to what their products have done to so many women, myself included.

Add me please I developed Fibroids
I’ve used these products for many years but never knew the consequences
Developed Uterus fibroids
I definitely want more info and updates on this. I turned 40 this past August. I was diagnosed in my early 20s with uterine fibroids and other reproductive disorders. A vast majority of the brands of perms mentioned/listed in the lawsuit were used my hair on a regular basis, including brands that were marketed towards children (kiddie box perms and texturizers) to perms advertised as having ingredients (i.e. herbs, oils, etc.) that are help supposed to protect the hair from damage, from early childhood up until my late teens/early 20s prior to my diagnosis.
Please add me, I had Endometriosis that resulted in my having to have my uterus removed in 2008, thrown into menopause at the age 32, I also suffered from chocolate cyst due to having endometriosis I used relaxers for 20 years. I would have never used one had I understood the dangers of it. My mom started using them on my hair around 6 years old I took over at 10 doing my own hair.
They always include in articles “But not limited to endometriosis”, but when I receive a follow-up review call, they tell me it has to be a cancer diagnosis. What are they telling you in regards to your endometriosis claim
Please add me
