An Arkansas resident recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen, alleging that Xarelto dangerous side effects include life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeds.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff, Wesley T., began taking the blood thinner Xarelto in August 2014 at the direction of his doctor in order to treat deep vein thrombosis, or DVT.
Wesley continued taking Xarelto through December 2, 2014, when he suffered from a serious gastrointestinal bleeding incident that required extensive hospitalization and blood transfusions.
The lawsuit alleges that this gastrointestinal bleed is the direct result of Xarelto.
The plaintiff’s gastrointestinal bleeding injury has led to substantial pain, mental anguish, medical treatment and hospitalization expenses, and loss of potential earnings.
The Xarelto lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligence, design defect, strict products liability, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, fraud, and several others.
Background of Xarelto
Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is a blood thinning drug manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a prominent subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Xarelto is one of the most popular blood thinners currently on the market.
Xarelto is prescribed in order to treat blood clots and conditions related to clotting, including, in the case of this plaintiff, deep vein thrombosis. Blood clots are, in general, very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal.
However, despite Xarelto’s popularity, a growing number of Xarelto lawsuits like this one are being filed.
Lawsuits allege that Janssen knew about the Xarelto dangerous side effects linked with Xarelto, and yet failed to adequately warn both consumers and the medical community about these Xarelto dangerous side effects, placing patients at serious risk.
While Xarelto is used to prevent often dangerous blood clots, clots do actually have a life-saving function essential in certain circumstances, which can become a problem if a body is unable to produce clots.
In extreme situations like a serious accident or an emergency surgery, the body forms blood clots in order to slow bleeding.
Patients taking blood thinners like Xarelto, however, may be unable to form these life-saving clots in these kinds of situations, and may suffer from Xarelto dangerous side effects as a result.
Xarelto Dangerous Side Effects
Plaintiffs involved in recent Xarelto lawsuits include a variety of Xarelto dangerous side effects. These include:
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleeding)
- Rectal bleeding
- Uterine bleeding
- Hemorrhaging
- Brain hemorrhaging
- Hermarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces)
- Bloody stool
- Minor bleeding (nosebleeds, heavy menstrual flow)
Unfortunately, these serious Xarelto dangerous side effects can lead to permanent injury or even death.
Xarelto Lawsuits
Filing a Xarelto gastrointestinal bleeding lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has suffered from extreme Xarelto dangerous side effects, and cannot bring a loved one back to life.
However, a Xarelto lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
If you or someone you love has experienced severe Xarelto dangerous side effects like Xarelto gastrointestinal bleeding, or even death caused by Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto dangerous side effects lawsuit.
The Xarelto Dangerous Side Effects Lawsuit is filed in MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
