Whirlpool class action overview:

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Whirlpool and WarrantyGuard for allegedly selling Whirlpool extended service plans that do not cover the costs of a replacement or all repairs.
The companies say that the extended warranty will cover the required labor and parts for warranty issues on the appliances at no out-of-pocket expense to consumers . However, the plans allow Whirlpool to exercise a buyout on devices capped at 75% of the purchase price of the appliance, according to the Whirlpool class action.
Appliances covered by the plans include Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Amana, Maytag, Kenmore and JennAir.
“The consumer cannot use these funds to purchase a comparable appliance unless she supplements the Settlement Payout with her own funds,” the Whirlpool class action says. “Nor can she use the Settlement Payout to have a third-party repair service fix her appliance because, under the terms of the Service Contract, the appliance becomes Defendants’ property upon the exercise of a Buyout and must be surrendered to them upon their request.”
Whirlpool extended service plans generate unfair profits, lawsuit claims
Whirlpool generates unfair profits for itself with the buyout clause, the Whirlpool class action claims. Customers are often unaware of the clause until they need a repair and face the buyout, the plaintiff says.
The Whirlpool extended service plans also fall short of what is advertised for other reasons, Plaintiff Hadassah Shellenberger claims in the lawsuit.
“Defendants required Shellenberger to find her own repair technician to resolve the issue, pay out-of-pocket costs to the repair service, and then seek reimbursement from them because, according to Defendants, they had no repair technicians in her area,” the lawsuit says. “She tried but was unsuccessful. None of the technicians she contacted were willing to perform repairs under the terms Defendants required.”
Whirlpool also faces a February class action lawsuit alleging it manufactured and sold Whirlpool refrigerators with defective wiring that can pose a safety hazard.

I purchased a whirlpool dishwasher 19 months ago and the extended warranty of 5 years. My dishwasher started rusting and not running properly, I called the and to no eval I was told it was not covered under the warrenty and had to pay out of pocket.

Have a whirlpool stove. Tried to get a tech out from the extended warranty. To check the upper stove temperature. Seems it’s different every time I use it. So have to be careful and watch food being cooked, doesn’t burn or even cook all the way. Got it from sears appliance with the extension, because it was a clearance model. Like the stove, just not happy with how the upper stove works
Lower stove seems to work great..
What do I need to be added to this to figure out if I’m able to be added??
Wasted my money on the extra warranty
I’ve also been victimized by this Whirlpool warranty scam/theft, I certainly would like to be put on this list.
I have a current extended warranty with Frigidaire the technician comes out to fix my refrigerator and says it’s not repairable and they’re going to give me a brand new one and Lowe’s will send me out all the stuff and come pick mine up and bring me a new one I’ve been to Lowe’s 10 times I’ve been on the phone with Frigidaire for a month’s worth of hours when I purchased my second extended warranty on the same refrigerator was right after that they told me that the refrigerator was under warranty and I would be getting a new one so they refunded me my money for my extended warranty so I could put it towards the new refrigerator they were going to be bringing me out now when I called Frigidaire I have no extended warranty with them because they took it out of their system for the new refrigerator even though my time still hasn’t expired for my original extended warranty and Lowe’s won’t give me any refrigerator because it’s $850 more now than when I bought it and they don’t want to be out of pocket so they want me to pay the extra
I purchased a washing machine from Home Depot, and after they did the last repair, which was a reoccurring repair, the extended warranty informed me that they will no longer cover the item because the repairs have gone past what the item is worth. I then paid for the extended warranty that I could no longer use because it was capped out. That is what they told me over the phone. That they cannot cover any more repairs, because it is already exceeded the cost of the actual washer.
