Unum disabiliy insurance problems

A woman has filed an Unum lawsuit against the disability insurance company after Unum allegedly practiced bad faith insurance.

The Unum lawsuit claims that the company was guilty of conflict of interest as they were the ones who were both responsible for the acceptance or rejection of the plaintiff Lorri M.’s benefit claims as well as for the evaluation of the her health.

Lorri was given Unum long-term disability insurance through her employer. She alleges that she became disabled according to the definition set by her Unum disability benefits. However, Unum allegedly practiced bad faith insurance and refused to pay her claims.

Conflict of interest has played a major role in both this and other Unum lawsuits.

“Defendant Unum makes the final decision to deny claims under the insurance policy providing benefits to [the plaintiff] and bore the ultimate responsibility for paying long-term disability benefits,” the Unum claim denial lawsuit states. This demonstrated a system of conflict of interest that Unum has allegedly used to wrongfully deny many disability benefits.

Unum has allegedly “subjected the Plaintiff to an unreasonable claims process,” the Unum lawsuit says, which may have made it impossible for Lorri to make any progress outside of the Unum lawsuit.

Lorri has asked the court for the funds denied to her. She also requests that her Unum disability benefits be paid to her following the Unum lawsuit according to the plan set forth by the insurance company and any legal fees, attorney fees, and others.

Unum Lawsuits

Many individuals have had similar experiences with Unum Life Insurance, which happens to be one of the largest disability insurance providers in the country.

People have been given Unum disability benefits through their employers. Some victims were granted disability benefits for a short period of time before Unum “evaluated” their case and determined that they were not in fact disabled.

Others have provided medical evidence that was alleged to be more than adequate to prove that they fit the terms of disability as set forth by Unum and still had their disability benefits rejected.

As a result, countless Unum lawsuits have been filed against the company stating that the company practiced bad faith insurance by wrongfully rejecting their claims. These disability insurance lawsuits seek to help those who deserve disability benefits win the money that they are owed and to guarantee future coverage.

This Unum Lawsuit is Case No. 2:15-cv-14154, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Pierce Division.
