Unum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a new lawsuit over how a woman had her claim allegedly denied under illegal circumstances.
This Unum denied disability claim lawsuit indicates that the insurance company denied the claim with little to no sufficient reasons, despite the claimant needing the benefits for comfortable living situations.
Maryland plaintiff Karin R. is filing her Unum denied disability claim lawsuit after her claim was denied despite allegedly meeting all requirements for insurance benefits.
Previously, Karin had been employed by as the Director of Professional Recruitment and Retention of her company, which had contracted Unum Life Insurance Company of America to provide disability coverage for its employees.
The insurance policies provided by Unum promised to provide coverage if the employee had met the disability benefit requirements, according to Karin.
The eligibility requirements include the employee being unable to perform their regular occupational duties, due to the sickness or injury. The employee must also be unable to work in a similar occupation, and must have lost over 20% of their monthly indexed earnings.
Overview of Unum Denied Disability Claim Lawsuit
According to the Unum denied disability claim lawsuit, Karin had been suffering from a variety of disorders that prevented her from working including: depression, panic disorder, migraine headaches, hypothyroidism, fatigue, and cognitive impairment.
Her Unum denied disability claim lawsuit indicates that Karin became disabled on March 27, 2014.
Even though she allegedly applied for disability coverage in a timely manner and had followed all administrative procedure, Karin found herself denied.
Unum had officially denied her long term disability benefits on July 30, 2015, resulting in Karin obtaining counsel and filing a timely appeal on Jan. 22, 2016.
Both during her initial filing and her appeal for disability coverage, Karin also filed any relevant medical testimony that described her condition.
She also submitted testimony from a vocational professional, which further confirmed that Karin was no longer able to work. Even though Karin had apparently met all requirements to receive disability coverage, Unum denied her appeal on March 21, 2016.
Karin is filing this Unum denied disability claim lawsuit against the insurance giant for allegedly denying her claim under illegal circumstances.
One of these allegations include the company denying disability insurance to protect their own financial interest, and she also claims that the company failed in its civil duty to provide disability insurance to Karin.
Karin is seeking all missed payments since her claim for disability was denied.
