Pradaxa-bleeding-symptomsPradaxa, a newer anticoagulant, has been linked with hemorrhaging complications and patients should be aware of Pradaxa bleeding symptoms.

Pradaxa, generically known as dabigatran, is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and was created to compete with warfarin, the standard anticoagulant on the market for decades.

Patients on warfarin need to change their diet and their health needs to be monitored closely. Pradaxa was introduced as an anticoagulant that needs less monitoring and no change in diet.

Pradaxa is in a class of drugs called Direct Thrombin Inhibitors and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in October of 2010.

Even though it has been marketed as superior to warfarin, Pradaxa bleeding symptoms have been a concern for the medical community and patients alike.

Any anticoagulant comes with possible excessive bleeding side effects, and both Pradaxa and warfarin have been linked with hemorrhaging. However, warfarin has an antidote to excessive bleeding: vitamin K.

Pradaxa bleeding symptoms have only recently been able to be reversed by a new antidote, Praxbind. Praxbind was introduced to the market five years after Pradaxa was available.

This means that for the first five years after its release, patients experienced Pradaxa bleeding symptoms that could not be reversed. Pradaxa critics claim that that once Pradaxa bleeding symptoms begin, there is no way to stop the bleed until the body is flushed of the drug by dialysis.

This could take hours and can possibly result in death for the patient.

Within the first year of Pradaxa being on the market, there were more than 260 reported deaths linked to Pradaxa bleeding symptoms. These were due to internal bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhage and stroke.

As early as December 2011, the FDA issued a safety notice warning Pradaxa patients of the serious risk of Pradaxa bleeding symptoms.

Pradaxa Bleeding Symptoms

Pradaxa bleeding symptoms include bruising without any known cause, frequent nose bleeds, bleeding from the gums, discolored urine, red or black stools, coughing up blood and possibly vomiting blood.

Additional Pradaxa bleeding symptoms include vomit that looks like coffee grounds, headaches, dizziness, weakness, swelling or joint pain and any unusual bleeding.

Filing a Pradaxa Bleeding Lawsuit

Dozens of Pradaxa bleeding lawsuits have been filed with plaintiffs alleging the drug manufacturer should have known or failed to reveal to patients the deadly risks associated with Pradaxa.

Plaintiffs believe that they were misled and that their physicians were not notified of the risk of Pradaxa bleeding symptoms and possible death.

If you or someone you love has experienced Pradaxa bleeding symptoms or have been injured due to Pradaxa, you may be entitled to legal compensation. An experienced Pradaxa attorney is available to help.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
