Pradaxa, a popular anticoagulant manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, has been linked with an increased risk of major side effects, including Pradaxa hemorrhaging.
In response to reports of Pradaxa hemorrhaging and other major complications, the manufacturer has been hit with a number of lawsuits filed by injured patients and their families. According to these patients, the pharmaceutical giant failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the risk of complications like Pradaxa hemorrhaging.
So far, thousands of Pradaxa lawsuits have been filed.
Basics of Pradaxa
Pradaxa (generic name dabigatran) is a relatively recent blood thinner, or anticoagulant, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010. Blood thinners are used primarily to prevent blood clotting, which can cause a number of serious health problems such as stroke. Pradaxa was introduced as an alternative for the traditional blood thinner, warfarin (or Coumadin).
Pradaxa has quickly grown in popularity since its introduction to the market, and had already been prescribed to 3.7 million U.S. patients within two years of its approval. Now, nearly ten years later, Pradaxa’s manufacturer has faced thousands of lawsuits filed by patients who claim that the blood thinner causes serious complications that they were not adequately warned about.
While any medication will come with certain mild side effects that generally go away on their own without further treatment, Pradaxa’s risks may unfortunately be more severe. Indeed, Pradaxa users have reported suffering from side effects like Pradaxa hemorrhaging after using the medication. Lawsuits and studies have indicated that the risk of Pradaxa hemorrhaging is more significant than originally thought.
Pradaxa hemorrhaging, or bleeding in the brain, is the most dangerous side effect of Pradaxa. It is important to know the symptoms of a brain bleed from Pradaxa hemorrhaging so you are better able to seek medical attention immediately.
Pradaxa Hemorrhaging
Because of the nature of blood thinner drugs like Pradaxa, these drugs often cause excessive and unusual bruising and bleeding. When a person takes a blood thinner to avoid blood clotting and its dangerous consequences, their body is also unable to form blood clots to prevent this kind of unusual bleeding.
For most, bruising and bleeding side effects are extremely minor. For others, however, the drug may cause Pradaxa hemorrhaging, which in some cases is fatal, but otherwise can still have severe, life-altering consequences.
Symptoms of Pradaxa Hemorrhaging
Symptoms to look out for while taking Pradaxa that may indicate Pradaxa hemorrhaging include, but are not limited to, the following:
- A sudden severe headache
- Seizures with no previous history of seizures
- Weakness in an arm or leg
- Nausea or vomiting
- Decreased alertness; lethargy
- Changes in vision
- Tingling or numbness
- Difficulty speaking or understanding speech
- Difficulty swallowing
- Difficulty reading or writing
- Loss of fine motor skills (including hand tremors)
- Loss of coordination
- Loss of balance
- An abnormal sense of taste
- Loss of consciousness
Filing a Pradaxa Hemorrhaging Lawsuit
If you or someone you love has taken Pradaxa and has subsequently experienced any of the above symptoms, such as excessive bleeding or Pradaxa hemorrhaging, you may have cause for filing a Pradaxa bleeding side effects lawsuit. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by side effects of Pradaxa or bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
