An Alabama woman has filed a Taxotere hair loss lawsuit against Sanofi Aventis because she claims Taxotere was the cause of her long-term and disfiguring hair loss.
Plaintiff Kimberly C. says she received Taxotere chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with cancer. According to her Taxotere hair loss lawsuit, she took Taxotere from March 2015 to June 2015.
Kimberly is filing this Taxotere hair loss lawsuit after suffering from permanent, disfiguring hair loss at least six months after she stopped using Taxotere.
Chemotherapy often brings significant hair loss, but usually only temporarily. Patients expect their hair to grow back after they stop chemotherapy treatment. However, Taxotere has often been connected to permanent, disfiguring hair loss.
What is Taxotere?
Taxotere is one of the most popular chemotherapy drugs on the market. As many as 75% of breast cancer patients in the United States receive Taxotere chemotherapy. Taxotere has been in use in the United States for over twenty years for the treatment of breast cancer. Since 1996, it has been approved for use with other types of cancer.
Many studies show that Taxotere is quite successful in prolonging the life of women with breast cancer. But many patients are not aware of a disturbing side effect: permanent alopecia.
As a result, many patients, like Kimberly, have filed a Taxotere hair loss lawsuit against the makers of the drug, Sanofi Aventis, claiming that had they known about the potential problems, they would have never chosen to use Taxotere.
Taxotere works by stopping cells from multiplying and dividing and attacks the cancer cells’ DNA and RNA so that the tumor cannot spread. It also inhibits the microtubules in cancer cells, which are necessary for cell division. When the cell cannot divide or multiply it dies.
Because chemotherapy drugs attack cancer cells, they can also attack fast-growing healthy cells in the body such as hair cells. This is usually why hair loss occurs with chemotherapy.
But Taxotere has allegedly caused more than a thousand women to have permanent hair loss and subsequently file a Taxotere hair loss lawsuit.
When patients lose their hair due to Taxotere use, they may lose all of their body hair including eyebrows and pubic hair in addition to the hair on their head. For women, this is a particularly disfiguring condition.
One study found that 9.2 percent of Taxotere patients experienced hair loss that lasted in excess of 10 years. Another study looked at 20 women. Of those 20 women, 19 suffered from permanent hair loss.
If you or someone you love has experienced permanent hair loss from Taxotere use, you may be able to file a Taxotere hair loss lawsuit.
