Johnson & Johnson is facing a new Shower to Shower lawsuit from a California woman alleging the company’s talcum powder products caused her to develop ovarian cancer. The woman claims that the company had known the risks associated with their products, but failed to disclose information to the general public.

Plaintiff Frances E. is filing this Shower to Shower lawsuit, soon after discovering the alleged link between ovarian cancer and talcum powder. Frances must now contend with the radical treatment regime for her ovarian cancer, which could have been avoided if Johnson & Johnson included sufficient warnings.

Frances points out in her Shower to Shower lawsuit that she had used the company’s talcum powder products throughout her life, and had no previous knowledge of the risk of ovarian cancer. Within the many uses of the company’s talcum powder products, Frances had also applied the powder to her genital area for hygiene purposes.

This action allegedly resulted in Frances developing ovarian cancer, which could have been avoided if Frances had known the risk. Frances was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013, and has since had to undergo a hysterectomy and other aggressive treatments.

Overview of Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Link

Johnson & Johnson has been using talc for decades, selling their line of products to generations of women who were told that talcum powder was a safe and effective method for rash and other hygienic problems. Most commonly, talcum powder was used for baby powder and Shower to Shower was marketed to adults as a powder used to reduce friction and odor for personal hygiene purposes, with the company advertising that using the powders would make women feel cleaner.

However, the company allegedly knew of the risks their talcum powder products posed for years, but did nothing to warn consumers.

Since the first talcum powder ovarian study was published in 1971, indicating that using talcum powder for feminine hygiene resulted in an increased risk of ovarian cancer, there have been 22 studies indicating that using talcum powder could significantly increase the risk of ovarian cancer when applied to the genital area.

When the powder is applied, talc particles can enter the vagina and travel through the fallopian tubes until they land in the ovaries. After a certain number of years, the particles may fester into cancer cells and can quickly spread. Even though this is a significant risk to consumers, Johnson & Johnson allegedly failed to warn women against this possibility.

Frances had filed her Shower to Shower lawsuit after discovering the link, claiming that the company either knew or should have known the risks of talcum powder ovarian cancer. Frances is seeking multiple damages against Johnson & Johnson, including negligence and failure to warn.

This Shower to Shower lawsuit is Frances E. v. Johnson & Johnson, Case No. 3:17-cv-00225-MMA-MDD, in the U.S. District Court of Southern California.
