Holiday shipping deadlines overview: 

  • Who: Amazon and major courier services USPS, UPS and FedEx recommended shipping deadlines to ensure on-time delivery this holiday season.

  • Where: Consumers nationwide need to be aware of holiday shipping deadlines.

Consumers looking to ship gifts to friends and family this holiday season will want to be aware of shipping deadlines, which vary by courier service, to ensure on-time delivery. 

Send USPS First-Class Mail packages by Dec. 16 to ensure Christmas delivery

Consumers who use the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to ship packages from the lower 48 states and Alaska must do so by Dec. 16 for items sent with USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express to ensure they are received by Dec. 25. 

The same deadlines apply to consumers shipping items from Hawaii, with the exception that anything shipped with Priority Mail must be done so by Dec. 16, according to USPS

Items shipped from the Air/Army Post Office, Fleet Post Office or Diplomatic Post Office must be sent by Dec. 9 for First-Class Mail or Priority Mail and Dec. 15 for Priority Mail Express. 

For international shipping, consumers must send all items shipped with Global Express Guaranteed Service by Dec. 15 and with Priority Mail Express International Service by Dec. 13 for most countries. 

Items shipped with Priority Mail Express International Service to countries in Africa and Central or South America have an earlier deadline of Dec. 6. 

Consumers can also ship items using USPS’ First Class Package International Service and Priority Mail International Service, with varying deadlines by area.  

Send FedEx Same Day packages by Dec. 22 for Christmas Eve delivery

Consumers who use FedEx to ship packages this holiday season and want them to arrive on or before Dec. 24 have a variety of deadlines to consider. 

For domestic FedEx Express shipping, consumers must send items by Dec. 22 for FedEx SameDay, Dec. 21 for 1Day Freight, Dec. 20 for 2Day, 2Day AM and 2Day Freight and Dec. 19 for FedEx Express Saver and 3Day Freight. 

Using FedEx Ground or FedEx Freight Priority, consumers must send packages with five-day shipping by Dec. 15, four-day shipping by Dec. 18, three-day shipping by Dec. 19, two-day shipping by Dec. 20 and one-day shipping by Dec. 21. 

For FedEx Home Delivery, individuals should send items with five-day shipping by Dec. 15, four-day shipping by Dec. 18, three-day shipping by Dec. 20, two-day shipping by Dec. 21 and one-day shipping by Dec. 22.

Send UPS Next Day Air packages by Dec. 21 to ensure delivery by Dec. 23

For items sent with UPS, consumers who want to make sure their items reach their U.S. destination by Dec. 23 will have a deadline of Dec. 21 with UPS Next Day Air, Dec. 20 with UPS 2nd Day Air and Dec. 19 with UPS 3 Day Select. 

For delivery to Canada or Mexico, individuals should ship packages by Dec. 20 with UPS Worldwide Express and Dec. 19 with UPS Worldwide Expedited services. Information on deadlines for other countries can be found here

UPS notes it will not have any pickup or delivery services available Dec. 24, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1; however, consumers can still use its UPS Express Critical service those days. 

Amazon Prime subscribers can utilize same-day delivery service Christmas Eve

Consumers who order items from Amazon will also want to be aware of deadlines to ensure delivery by Christmas Day. 

The deadline to purchase a product with free shipping is Dec. 14 with an estimated delivery date of Dec. 23, with two-day Prime shipping is Dec. 22 and delivery of Dec. 24 and one-day Prime shipping is Dec. 23 and delivery of Dec. 24, CNET reports. 

Consumers with a Prime subscription can also reportedly utilize same-day delivery on Dec. 24 to have items delivered on the same day.
