A new class action lawsuit accuses Samsung of selling slide-in electric stoves with a defect that causes the stoves to unintentionally turn on, posing a fire hazard.

Plaintiffs Rocky Brown, Sarah Young and Stephenie Brown filed the class action lawsuit against Samsung Electronics America on May 9 in Tennessee federal court.

The plaintiffs allege Samsung sold slide-in electric stoves with front-mounted control knobs that are prone to unintentional actuation, leading to hazardous conditions.

They claim Samsung has received more than 300 reports of unintentional activation since 2013, resulting in approximately 250 fires, some of which caused extensive property damage and even pet deaths.

The plaintiffs allege Samsung’s recall of the defective stoves in August 2024 came too late for them, as their home was destroyed in a fire caused by one of the recalled stoves just days before they received their recall notice.

Samsung sold 1.1M stoves with defect, class action says

According to the Samsung stove class action, the company sold more than 1.1 million units of the defective stoves, which can activate with minor contact from humans or pets, creating a serious risk of fire.

The plaintiffs claim Samsung knew about the defect for years but failed to inform consumers at the point of sale.

They seek to represent a nationwide class of consumers who purchased the recalled Samsung stoves. They are suing for breach of implied warranty, fraudulent concealment, misrepresentation, unjust enrichment, violation of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, intentional infliction of emotional distress, strict products liability and negligence.

The trio demand a jury trial and request compensatory and punitive damages as well as restitution for the alleged unlawful conduct.

In August 2024, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung over the dangerous design defect, saying he was not notified about the recall or defect and instead learned about the issue on social media.

  1. Monica Holmes says:

I purchased a Samsung a range included in this recall in November of 2023. I was absolutely shocked that the only resolution offered was the silly little knob protectors. I asked for a refund since I learned of the recall only months after I purchased the range but I was quickly told NO by Samsung. I contacted the place I bought it from and they agreed that the knob protectors seemed insufficient since they are easily removed. I was given a $150 credit from the place of purchase (Not by Samsung) the lady said it was the most she could do since Samsung refused to budge on the matter and the range was under the manufactures warranty. We have 7 children and 6 cats. We had to install a safety gate at the entrance of our kitchen to try to keep everyone out and avoid a fire, Samsung didn’t care. Its September 2025 the manufactures warranty is over but we are battling through our extended warranty for a refund. They finally agreed but only in the form of a gift card. The range is still having issues the knobs do not regulate temp its just high all the time. knob set to 2 but out food still burns. Pots and pans ruined
