A new class action lawsuit accuses Samsung of selling slide-in electric stoves with a defect that causes the stoves to unintentionally turn on, posing a fire hazard.
Plaintiffs Rocky Brown, Sarah Young and Stephenie Brown filed the class action lawsuit against Samsung Electronics America on May 9 in Tennessee federal court.
The plaintiffs allege Samsung sold slide-in electric stoves with front-mounted control knobs that are prone to unintentional actuation, leading to hazardous conditions.
They claim Samsung has received more than 300 reports of unintentional activation since 2013, resulting in approximately 250 fires, some of which caused extensive property damage and even pet deaths.
The plaintiffs allege Samsung’s recall of the defective stoves in August 2024 came too late for them, as their home was destroyed in a fire caused by one of the recalled stoves just days before they received their recall notice.
Samsung sold 1.1M stoves with defect, class action says
According to the Samsung stove class action, the company sold more than 1.1 million units of the defective stoves, which can activate with minor contact from humans or pets, creating a serious risk of fire.
The plaintiffs claim Samsung knew about the defect for years but failed to inform consumers at the point of sale.
They seek to represent a nationwide class of consumers who purchased the recalled Samsung stoves. They are suing for breach of implied warranty, fraudulent concealment, misrepresentation, unjust enrichment, violation of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, intentional infliction of emotional distress, strict products liability and negligence.
The trio demand a jury trial and request compensatory and punitive damages as well as restitution for the alleged unlawful conduct.
In August 2024, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung over the dangerous design defect, saying he was not notified about the recall or defect and instead learned about the issue on social media.

26 thoughts onSamsung hit with another class action over defective slide-in electric stoves
Our home was a total loss last year in the fire cause buy this stove
I also had a Samsung stoves that started overheating by itself in results taking a big loss on my home and belongings. I’ve got proof from the fire department of my results. This by fare has been the biggest nightmare of my life!
Please add us to the class action lawsuit. The stove top eyes on our Samsung range are uncontrollable and absolutely dangerous. In addition, if we happen to pass by the stove, the knobs, which don’t work as they should, easily turn on the burners if they are just slightly brushed against. We haven’t had a house fire yet, but we don’t think Samsung cares about our lives, nor wants to replace our house and all of our valuables.
More than once we have left the house (and stove) unattended assuming the stove was completely safe. When we returned one of the stove top eyes was on and hot. We demand justice and a total refund. We will never buy another Samsung appliance.
