Unum Disability Insurance Denial LawsuitUnum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a claim denial lawsuit from a California woman, alleging she had been undercut with her Unum long-term disability benefits.

Plaintiff Remy R. is filing legal action against the insurance giant, alleging her Unum long-term disability benefits were lowered for insufficient reasons.

Remy was previously fully employed and was supposed to receive Unum long-term disability benefits should she ever need them.

Therefore, after becoming unable to work due to her disability, Remy filed for long-term disability coverage from Unum.

Initially Remy had been approved for Unum long-term disability benefits on June 18, 2013, after meeting the policy’s requirements, but it didn’t last.

Overview of Unum Claim Denial Lawsuit

Remy was declared unable to work, and was unable to gain any similar occupational duty to earn a sufficient salary.

Furthermore, Remy lost a significant amount of income and will be unable to sufficiently support herself due to her disability. This is what long-term disability insurance is for – to support an individual when this happens.

Remy had submitted all of this information in her claim, but was still allegedly denied her full Unum long-term disability benefits.

Specifically, she alleges that her Unum long-term disability benefits were unreasonably reduced, and did not match the amount promised by the insurance policy.

Part of what determined the monthly payment amount for disability coverage was based on Remy’s employment history and claim.

Remy had tried to appeal Unum’s decision to lower her disability benefits, reportedly submitting overwhelming medical evidence that proved that she needed the higher disability benefits.

Unum, however, denied the appeal on May 31, 2016, and has continued to withhold the full amount of the Unum long-term disability benefits.

Unum is the largest provider of disability benefits in the United States, and has been at the center of numerous claim denial allegations.

The insurance giant has been accused of using unethical tactics to deny disability coverage claims, including not providing full monthly disability benefits. Unum has been accused of only partially paying or lowering disability benefit payments, in order to save money for the company.

Remy alleges the company willfully ignored her need for the larger monthly benefit amount, and continues to deny full benefits. Remy is filing this claim denial lawsuit seeking compensation for all missed Unum long-term disability benefits payments, along with any relevant damages.

The Unum Long-Term Disability Benefits Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-07078, in the U.S. District Court of Central California.
