talcum powderA plaintiff, Johnna F., files a lawsuit in New Jersey federal court against Johnson & Johnson, the makers of their baby powder products. She alleges that due to product use, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

According to the Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit, Johnna, a resident and citizen of Marceline, Mo., alleges that she began using the products in 1988 but was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June 2015.

The Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit accuses the defendant of the following causes of action: Product’s Liability; Breach of Express Warranty; Breach of Implied Warranty; Negligence; Negligent Misrepresentation; Fraud; and Violation of State Consumer Protection Laws.

Johnson & Johnson baby Powder Lawsuit Joins MDL

Johnna’s Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit is filed as part of a large multidistrict litigation, or MDL, centered on allegations of an association between Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder and Shower-to-Shower products and ovarian cancer.

According to the Johnson & Johnson baby power lawsuit, the defendant allegedly failed to disclose its findings on the complications and adverse effects that may result from product use, and particularly that the contraction of ovarian cancer from the use of both its baby powder product and Shower-to-Shower  powder is a result of the product’s use.

The ovarian cancer lawsuit iterates that Johnson & Johnson allegedly hid this adverse side effect from the public and its consumers. Moreover, reports allege that the defendant had known of the risks involved in its talcum based product all along.

The Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit alleges that the products are composed of almost entirely of talc. But talc is an inorganic material which is used in a variety of other commercial and industrial products, and may cause a vast array of side effects, including ovarian cancer.

The lawsuit alleges, moreover, that some common side effects include low blood pressure, throat irritation, vomiting, twitching of facial muscles, chest pain and the inability to urinate.

According to the Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit, the company has placed thousands of women who have used their product at serious risk for developing a deadly cancer, such as ovarian cancer.

Moreover, as discussed in Johnna’s Johnson & Johnson baby powder lawsuit, several lawsuits have joined in the MDL to hold the company responsible for not only failing of warn of the dangers of their baby powder and Shower-to-Shower products but for the alleged contraction of ovarian cancer.

According to the lawsuit, “[i]n June of 2013, a pooled analysis of over 18,000 women in eight case-control studies found a 20% to 30% increased risk of women developing epithelial ovarian cancer from genital powder use.”

Additionally, the lawsuit purports that “[i]n a meta-analysis of all accumulated epidemiologic evidence…talc use was found to increase ovarian cancer by 30-60% in almost all well-designed studies.”
