PepsiCo is recalling 122,021 cases of Gatorade Lemon Lime and Gatorade Orange flavors due to the presence of undeclared artificial dyes Yellow No. 6 and/or Yellow No. 5.

The recall enforcement notice, initiated by PepsiCo on Sept. 25, was later classified as a Class II recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Oct. 2. This classification indicates that the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

The affected products include 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero, which were distributed across 37 states, including California, Texas and New York.

The Gatorade recall affects specific lots of the 28-ounce bottles, with lot codes 091026 DL – JUN 07 27 and 091126 DL – JUN 08 27, among others.

Consumers should contact Gatorade for more information

The undeclared dyes in the Gatorade products have prompted concerns as they can lead to adverse health effects, especially for individuals sensitive to artificial dyes.

PepsiCo has not yet provided information on whether customers who purchased the affected products are eligible for refunds, but consumers seeking more information can contact Gatorade directly at 1-800-884-2867 or visit its customer support webpage.

There are no reports of illness related to the recall so far. PepsiCo is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Meanwhile, Gatorade is facing class action allegations that it misleads consumers by falsely advertising that its sports drinks hydrate better than water and contain no artificial ingredients.
