Olympic Rescue It is a combination of paint and stain that is marketed to customers as a way to resurface wood or concrete decks without having to replace the entire weathered area.
According to advertising materials, Rescue It creates a barefoot friendly finish that is slip-resistant and the “high performance coating” provides waterproof protection.
However, recent customer complaints that the resurfacer cracks and peels within a few months of application has led to an Olympic Rescue It class action lawsuit investigation.
What is Olympic Rescue It! Resurfacer?
This popular do-it-yourself resurfacer is manufactured and marketed by Olympic as a product that is able to repair weathered wood posts, railings, stairs, decks as well as concrete patios and sidewalks. Olympic advertises its hybrid stain and paint product as “Don’t replace it. Rescue it!”
Rescue It comes with detailed application instructions on how customers need to prep the surface and apply the coating. Olympic informs consumers that the prep work is “time consuming,” but the company guarantees to refund or replace the product if customers are not satisfied.
Acrylic resurfacers are marketed as a way to provide a long-lasting deck protection. Even though they cost more than a traditional stain, manufacturers allege the cost is worth it because the product last longer. Olympic Rescue It! comes in more than 110 colors and retails for more than $40 per gallon.
Olympic Rescue It! Complications
According to consumer complaints, even after following the step-by-step instructions and spending countless hours prepping and applying Olympic Rescue It!, their decks look “terrible” and the resurfacing process has to be done all over again.
Some consumers claim that the cracking, peeling, and flaking occurs in a short amount of time and requires expensive repairs. Therefore, the guarantee of replacing or refunding the cost of the deck stain is not enough for many consumers.
Customers complain that the Olympic Rescue It was supposed to save time, not force consumers to do the project twice or pay for an expert to repair the damage left behind.
While Olympic does not give consumers an exact length of time that the resurfacer is supposed to last by stating that “the lifetime of the product may be limited by the condition of the wood or concrete that is being ‘rescued,’” some customers claim the product fails to work as advertised.
Rescue It! Class Action Lawsuit Investigation
A large number of customers have alleged that Olympic Rescue It is a defective product and want to hold the manufacturer responsible. However, Olympic has reportedly refused to acknowledge any liability or wrongdoing.
If you used Olympic Rescue It on your concrete or wood deck within the last few years and experienced fading, peeling, cracking, bubbling or mold growth soon after applying the product, you may have legal claim.
