- Where: The Nissan class action was filed in California federal court.
Nissan concealed a defect in the door lock actuators of three of its vehicle models that can cause occupants to become trapped inside, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Deena Khalifa claims Nissan concealed the defect in the door lock actuators of its 2013-2025 Altima, 2014-2025 Rogue and 2013-2025 Sentra vehicles.
Khalifa argues the alleged defect can result in the doors of the vehicles flying open during operation, spontaneous and unintended locking or unlocking of doors and/or an inability for passengers to open the doors at all.
“As a result of the defect, consumers have reported being trapped inside their vehicles, often having to crawl out of windows to free themselves,” the Nissan faulty door locks class action says.
Nissan failed to notify consumers of door lock defect, class action alleges
Khalifa claims Nissan has been aware of the alleged defect for more than a decade but has failed to take adequate corrective action, such as properly notifying consumers of the defect or offering to repair it at no charge.
“Despite receiving numerous complaints, Nissan has neglected to properly notify consumers of the defect, refused to repair the defective door locks without charge and failed to offer reimbursement for out-of-pocket repair costs,” the Nissan class action states.
Khalifa argues Nissan is guilty of unjust enrichment and violations of California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual, general, special, incidental, statutory, punitive and consequential damages for herself and all class members.
Last year, Nissan issued a recall for more than 37,000 Rogue and Infiniti QX80 SUVs due to a defect that can cause the rearview camera to display a blank image while the vehicle is in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.

Please include me. I have a 2016 Nissan Altima.
My passenger rear door lock is messed up. It don’t always lock or unlock
I need in on this as three of my doors are messed up and we have to lock and unlock them manually.
Please add me to this lawsuit. I have a 2020 Nissan Rogue SV. I thought I was going crazy. It started with my drivers side window where it won’t go back up if rolled all the way down. Then that back tail gate refuses to lock shut and gets stuck and won’t open or close. Then the key fob won’t unlock or lock the car sometimes and I can be right next to my car with my hand on the handle. Sometimes it won’t even unlock with the button on the car handle with the go litterially right next to the car. Also, I have had will driving the car unlock and lock multiple times and won’t stop and I have had the tailgate open when driving. This is ridiculous.
