A class action investigation has been launched to help victims who were impacted by the terrorist attacks in 2001, including those who have developed September 11 cancer.

There have been many cases of documented September 11 cases noted in the World Trade Center Health (WTC) Registry and the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund, which is supposed to help provide financial assistance to people suffering from these long-term health complications.

A recent victim of September 11 cancer was Connecticut State Trooper First Class Water Greene, who reportedly died on May 31, 2018. Greene reportedly developed September 11 cancer allegedly as a result of helping out during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Greene was reportedly part of the Connecticut State Police first responders, which were called to New York City to help in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Greene had reportedly assisted in escorting people to and from Ground Zero and had served with the Connecticut State Police for 28 years.

Overview of September 11 Cancer

Victims of September 11 cancer can be eligible to participate in the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. The September 11 Victim Compensation Fund was created to compensate any person or their loved ones who sustained physical harm from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

This means that people who are eligible for the compensation fund does not just include first responders but also persons who lived or worked near the site of the attacks, with eligible participants including:

  • Sanitation Workers
  • Construction Workers
  • City Workers
  • Utility Workers
  • Cleaners
  • 9/11 Volunteers
  • Employees who worked below Canal Street
  • Residents who lived below Canal Street
  • Students attending school below Canal Street

During the initial terrorist attack, approximately 2,753 people reportedly died from the two planes striking the World Trade Center. Not only did this destroy the structure, this also released millions of toxic particles into the air that would continuously impact the United States for many years to come.

The federal government had established the victim’s compensation fund soon after the September 11 attacks, to help people who developed health problems after being exposed to the toxic substances released at the Ground Zero site.

The victim’s compensation fund provides tax-free financial assistance for pain and suffering, lost earning, and past and future medical expenses allegedly caused by September 11 cancer.

The original 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund had shut down in 2001 but was later revived in January 2011 after it was discovered thousands of people were still being diagnosed with September 11 cancer. President Obama had guaranteed the victim’s compensation fund would be operational until 2020 when he signed a bill in 2015.

At this point over 70 different cancers have been connected to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, cancers that have been linked to toxins like asbestos, jet fuel, glass, and aluminum. Over one million people were exposed to these materials during the eight-month cleanup period of the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

According to the WTC cancer fund, thousands of victims who reportedly developed September 11 cancer have already received millions in compensation.

Navigating the complex and burdensome paperwork and strict deadlines to participate in the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund can be difficult. An experienced 9/11 Victim Fund attorney can help and ensure you get the maximum compensation available.
