Abilify gambling addiction horseracingA Florida woman recently filed a lawsuit against Bristol-Myers Squibb over Abilify impulse control side effects. The lawsuit alleges that the antipsychotic can have severe and lasting side effects, and that Abilify impulse control problems have led to substantial financial harm.

The plaintiff, Helene L., began taking Abilify in 2008, and continued taking the drug until 2014. Unfortunately, Helene began experiencing side effects of the drug that have had a lasting and harmful effect on her life.

After starting to take Abilify, Helene alleges she developed compulsive behaviors including pathological gambling. These Abilify impulse control problems, she alleges, have caused pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, and serious economic loss.

According to her lawsuit, these side effects are a direct result of ingesting Abilify. The lawsuit claims that Helene was not adequately warned about the risk of Abilify impulse control problems.

Helene filed her Abilify impulse control lawsuit on Nov. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, fraudulent concealment, and several others.

Background of Abilify Medication

Abilify (which is also sold under its generic name, aripiprazole) is a popular antipsychotic option manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb. Abilify is used to treat mental disorders including schizophrenia and depression. Though Abilify has only been on the market for a few short years, it has grown in popularity rapidly, and already brings in billions of dollars in annual sales.

Unfortunately, the news isn’t all good. Abilify has been linked with serious side effects, including Abilify impulse control problems that can have a drastic effect on patients. Abilify users report being affected by Abilify impulse control problems including compulsive gambling and shopping addiction.

Abilify impulse control problems can affect a person’s day-to-day life, their family, and their finances. Indeed, compulsive gambling and shopping can be so severe that people who suffer from it are driven to gamble or shop even when they do not have the financial capacity to do so, which can land patients in extremely deep debt.

One of the major problems with Abilify impulse control problems like compulsive gambling is that it is extremely difficult to stop these compulsive behaviors and return to normal life without getting professional help. Professional help can be extremely expensive, and so even when patients do actually manage to recover from these compulsive behaviors, they may still be left with severe financial consequences.

Filing an Abilify Impulse Control Side Effects Lawsuit

Abilify and similar drugs are currently being investigated in the United States to determine Abilify dangers. Similar drugs, other dopamine receptor agonists, have been targeted in other lawsuits. If you or someone you know has been impacted by impulse control behaviors like compulsive shopping after taking Abilify or a similar antipsychotic drug, you may be eligible to file an Abilify side effects lawsuit.

The Abilify Impulse Control Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-00792-MCR-GRJ, in the U.S. District Court for the Pensacola Division of the Northern District of Florida.

In general, Abilify lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
