Ram recall overview:
- Who: Stellantis, through its subsidiary FCA US, is recalling 72,509 Ram trucks.
- Why: A software error can cause the instrument panel cluster to go blank, depriving drivers of crucial information.
- Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
Stellantis has initiated a recall of more than 72,000 Ram trucks due to a software glitch that may cause the instrument panel cluster to go blank.
This defect affects the 2025 and 2026 models of Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks, all of which are equipped with 12-inch display screens.
The recall was confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Dec. 1, under campaign no. 25V826000.
The issue arises from a software error that can cause the display to fail at startup or while driving, potentially leading to a crash due to the lack of visible safety information. According to the Ram recall, this defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards related to brake systems and transmission controls.
“An instrument panel display that does not show critical information, such as warning lights or gear selection, increases the risk of a crash,” the recall notice states.
Drivers can look out for warning signs, Ram recall states
The recall highlights that before the instrument cluster goes blank, the malfunction indicator light may illuminate, serving as a warning to drivers.
The investigation into the defect began on Sept. 10, 2025, when FCA’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance group identified potential failures in the instrument panel displays of certain Dodge Ram 1500 models.
The affected vehicles were manufactured between Oct. 3, 2023, and Nov. 12, 2025, with the defective instrument panel clusters supplied by Marelli North America. FCA US has stated that other vehicles not included in the Ram recall have instrument clusters from different suppliers or were produced outside the affected timeframe.
The company plans to address the issue by inspecting and updating the software of the instrument panels or replacing the clusters if necessary.
This service will be provided free of charge to the owners of the affected vehicles. Notification letters are expected to be sent to vehicle owners on or around Jan. 8, 2026.

Stellantis says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the Ram recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Earlier this year, the NHTSA initiated an investigation into nearly 1.2 million Ram pickup trucks, including Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 models, due to a potential rollaway risk that led to the alleged death and injury of at least six people
