Volvo issued a recall for more than 413,000 vehicles in December over concerns their rearview camera image may not display.

The recall impacts certain 2021-2025 Volvo XC40, 2022 V90, 2022-2024 C40BEV, 2022-2025 S90, V90CC, XC60, 2023-2025 S60, V60, V60CC, XC90, and 2025 EC40 and EX40 vehicles.

Volvo said the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, thus rendering vehicles non-compliant with federal safety standards.

“A rearview camera image that does not display reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the automaker recall letter says.

Volvo plans to remedy the recall issue with a software update, either through a dealer or over-the-air, free of charge.

Volvo to mail recall notification letters by mid-February

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb.16 and vehicles under notice will require the necessary remedy according to road safety standards.

In the meantime, vehicle owners may contact Volvo’s customer service phone number at 1-800-458-1552, referencing recall R10333.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov.

Volvo says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In other Volvo news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against the automaker last year over claims it failed to disclose a fire risk defect in its plug-in hybrid vehicles.
