Mesothelioma-Wrongful-DeathPlaintiff Norman E. has filed a mesothelioma lawsuit against General Electric Company, CBS Corporation and Rockwell Automation, Inc. for inhaling asbestos fibers through his work and sustaining an asbestos-related lung disease diagnosis.

The plaintiff has filed the mesothelioma lawsuit in California federal court, San Francisco division.

According to the mesothelioma lawsuit, the plaintiff was later diagnosed with asbestos-related lung disease because he inhaled asbestos fibers.

The mesothelioma lawsuit states that Norman sustained the lung disease diagnosis through, “the handling of asbestos-containing products at plaintiff’s job sites.”

Norman contends that he was diagnosed with lung disease because of repeated exposure to asbestos-containing products that were manufactured and distributed by the defendant throughout an extended time frame.

Norman alleges that the sustained lung disease arose not from his worksite but from the fact that he had handled the asbestos-containing products made by the defendant in the manner intended. Accordingly, it was a manner which, therefore, “released harmful asbestos fibers which when inhaled by plaintiff, caused serious lung disease.”

Mesothelioma Facts

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the tissue that lines the heart, lungs, stomach or other organs of the body. The condition requires a medical diagnosis and lab tests. According to reports, a malignant or cancerous form of mesothelioma is the most common form.

Symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath, a cough, chest pain, fatigue, weight loss, fluid buildup, bowel obstruction, pain near tumor and difficulty swallowing.

Treatment for the disease may also include chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Treatment may be helpful, but the condition cannot be cured.

Mesothelioma often develops in individuals working in and where asbestos exposure may be common. Such workplaces include auto repair shops, old houses, shipyards, industrial settings, public buildings and schools.

Although long-term asbestos exposure is more commonly what causes the development of mesothelioma, one-time exposure and short-term exposure are also found to cause the development of the cancer.

Doctors diagnose roughly 3,000 cases of mesothelioma in the U.S. annually. Accordingly, many cases are due to traces of job-related asbestos exposure.

Additionally, most people who develop mesothelioma due to an asbestos exposure have the pleural type, in which the cancer forms in the lining of the lungs. It may also form around the lining of either the heart of abdomen.

In recent years, asbestos exposure has dropped particularly due to the decreased amount of asbestos related use in the U.S. However, a steady number of individuals are still finding themselves with a mesothelioma diagnosis. According to reports, this is specifically due to the fact that the cancer can take anywhere between 20-50 years to appear from asbestos exposure. Because there is no known cure, outlook for complete recovery is poor.

However, researchers have made some substantial advances in better comprehension and understanding of the cancer and are in the process of developing additional mesothelioma treatment options and alternative remedies.

The Mesothelioma Lawsuit is Case No. 4:17-cv-03900-JSW, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division.
