baby-powder-ovarian-cancerAn Illinois resident recently filed a lawsuit against pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson, alleging the company’s product caused baby powder ovarian cancer.

According to the lawsuit, plaintiff Carolyn B. regularly used Johnson & Johnson talc baby powder products in the genital area, and claims that this usage over the course of years directly led to the development of baby powder ovarian cancer.

The baby powder ovarian cancer lawsuit was filed on March 22, 2017. Johnson & Johnson submitted a notice for removal of the claim to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Baby Powder Ovarian Cancer

Baby powder, especially baby powder products from Johnson & Johnson, have been widely used for years. The product is, as the name suggests, primarily used to prevent diaper rash in infants and small children. Adults also use the product to absorb moisture and prevent chafing.

However, these products are being increasingly linked with baby powder ovarian cancer.

Generations of women have used baby powder products as an essential component of their daily feminine hygiene routines, so a link between baby powder products and ovarian cancer could prove deadly for thousands.

Ovarian cancer is a particularly dangerous form of cancer. Ovarian cancer and similar or related cancers are the fifth leading cause of cancer fatalities in United States women, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Because there are few early symptoms of ovarian cancer, this disease is usually not discovered until much later, in the last stages of the cancer, which makes this alleged baby powder side effect even more dangerous.

Once a patient has progressed into the later stages of cancer, there is not much that can be done to stop the disease, and it becomes much more dangerous. This delay in discovery causes the fatality rate of ovarian cancer to soar, given that treatment is so much less effective in later stages.

Indeed, the most common type of ovarian cancer is epithelial ovarian cancer, and its early symptoms are largely unnoticeable, which makes it an even greater risk.

Baby Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuits

Allegations of consumers suffering from baby powder ovarian cancer because of talc-based products have been cause for serious concern among women who have used this kind of product.

Plaintiffs claim that being adequately warned about the dangers of these potentially serious risks, including baby powder ovarian cancer, would have prevented them from using the product, and therefore would have allowed them to avoid ovarian cancer diagnosis altogether.

If you or someone you know has used Johnson’s Baby Powder or a similar powder product containing talc and have since been diagnosed with baby powder ovarian cancer, you may be able to file a lawsuit.

The Baby Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-03057, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
