Here’s what is going on with the Camp Lejeune water case

An individual filed a class action lawsuit against the U.S. government in February, arguing they were exposed to water tainted with toxic chemicals at North Carolina’s Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune between the 1950s and 1980s.

The plaintiff claims the government failed to ensure the water was safe and that thousands of servicemembers and civilians who resided at Camp Lejeune during that time developed serious diseases and chronic conditions.

In addition to allegedly being linked to birth defects and stillbirths, exposure to the toxic water at Camp Lejeune has reportedly led to cases of kidney cancer, leukemia, cardiac defects and liver cancer, among other things.

FDA has recalled a dietary supplement it argues falsely claims to prevent, treat or cure COVID-19

While the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have passed, federal regulators are still keeping an eye on companies claiming to treat the illness.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an urgent recall in March for Dr. Rima Recommends Nano Silver 10 ppm dietary supplements over concerns the product was making unsubstantiated claims that it could prevent, treat or cure COVID-19.

The FDA argued the supplement’s manufacturers, Natural Solutions Foundation, deceived consumers and asked distributors to go through their inventories and immediately stop distributing the product.

In March, a consumer argued PepsiCo misbranded its Gatorade Fit beverages by allegedly not meeting California state requirements needed to justify the product’s inclusion of additional vitamins.

PepsiCo is accused of marketing the Gatorade Fit drinks as “Real Healthy Hydration” with “No Added Sugar” and an “Excellent Source of Vitamin A & C” despite not meeting the requirements necessary to make those claims.

In February, a consumer accused o.b. Organic tampon manufacturer Edgewell Personal Care Co. of falsely advertising the product as healthy and safe to use.

CVS dry mouth discs may erode teeth due to high acid content, a consumer alleges

If you have suffered from dry mouth, you know how uncomfortable the condition can be. One way to alleviate symptoms is to use what are known as dry mouth discs.

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against CVS Pharmacy in March, arguing the company sells dry mouth discs that cause tooth erosion due to their allegedly overly high acidity.

The consumer claims the CVS dry mouth discs promise to “Promote a healthy mouth” and “Freshen breath,” but in reality, cause tooth erosion that — according to a study — leads to 1% of tooth loss.

Tampax Pre Cotton tampons also may contain harmful chemicals, one consumer claims

As a consumer, you want to trust when a feminine hygiene product claims to be safe.

In February, Procter & Gamble was accused of misleading consumers about the safety of its Tampax tampons due to the product allegedly containing harmful chemicals.

Procter & Gamble is alleged to have intentionally designed the packaging for its Tampax Pure Cotton tampon product to convince consumers it does not contain any potentially harmful chemicals.

Walmart’s Great Value apple juice contains a chemical preservative, one class action says

A consumer filed a class action against Walmart, arguing the company failed to disclose the way it uses the chemical preservative ascorbic acid in its Great Value apple juice product.

The consumer claims that, while Walmart lists ascorbic acid in its ingredient list, it allegedly fails to mention that the chemically modified form of vitamin C is used as a preservative and buffering agent, among other things.

Amazon allegedly sold non-FDA-approved therapeutic dietary supplements

If you are like the majority of consumers, you want to know the supplement you are taking has been tested and approved by the FDA.

A pair of consumers argued in January, however, that Amazon.com Services LLC was breaking that trust — and the law — by allegedly promoting and selling therapeutic dietary supplements that were both defective and illegal.

The consumers argue Amazon sold the therapeutic dietary supplements — including a fish oil and magnesium oxide supplement, among others — despite them allegedly not being approved by the FDA.

Pfizer has recalled prescription drug Nurtec ODT over concerns about child-resistant packaging

Children seem to be able to find a way to get into anything. Child-resistant packaging, therefore, is crucially important when dealing with products like medicine or drugs.

This concern led Pfizer to announce a recall for around 4.2 million of a Nurtec ODT prescription drug in March, with the pharmaceutical company saying the product failed to meet requirements for child-resistant packaging.

The recall is for Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) orally disintegrating tablets that were sold in a 75 mg eight-unit dose blister pack with an expiration date through June 2026.
