Igloo cooler recall overview:

  • Who: Igloo Products Corp. has recalled more than a million 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers.
  • Why: A design flaw poses fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.
  • Where: The Igloo cooler recall is active in the United States.

Igloo Products Corp. has recalled more than a million coolers after at least a dozen customers reported suffering fingertip injuries with the product, including amputations.

The Igloo recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on Feb. 13. It applies to about 1.06 million Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024 that were sold in the United States, plus 47,000 coolers sold in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.

According to the recall, the tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.

So far, the firm has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures and lacerations. Igloo is not currently facing a class action lawsuit over the issue, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes lead to legal action.

Recalled coolers sold nationwide, notice says

Consumers should “immediately stop using the recalled coolers” and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle, the recall states.

The coolers were sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com and other websites from January 2019 through January 2025 for between $80 and $140.

Earlier this month, Igloo was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging the company falsely markets some of its coolers as biodegradable, made with recycled materials or made in the United States.
