Hyundai recall overview:

  • Who: Hyundai is recalling 568,580 Palisade SUVs and 31,042 IONIQ 6 EVs.
  • Why: The Palisade SUVs have faulty seat belt buckles, and the IONIQ 6 EVs have charging port door panels that may detach.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Hyundai has announced a recall affecting nearly 600,000 vehicles, including the popular Palisade SUV and IONIQ 6 EV, due to safety concerns.

The Hyundai Palisade recall involves 568,580 Palisade models from 2020 to 2025, which may have seat belt buckles that fail to latch properly.

Additionally, 31,042 IONIQ 6 EVs from 2023 to 2025 are being recalled because their charging port door panels could detach, posing a potential road hazard.

The recalls were officially reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Sept. 12, 2025.

Hyundai’s Palisade recall centers on the seat belt buckles in the driver, passenger and second-row window seats, which may not latch securely. This issue can result in a lighter-than-normal “click” sound when fastening the seatbelt, indicating a potential failure to latch properly.

Hyundai has advised owners to insert the belt firmly into the buckle and pull on it to ensure it is fully secured until the recall remedy is performed.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 EV issue a potential road hazard risk, recall states

In addition to the Hyundai Palisade recall, Hyundai has issued a recall for the IONIQ 6 EV models due to the risk of the charging port door panel detaching. This defect could create a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

Hyundai has stated that only about 1% of the affected vehicles are expected to have these defects, but the Hyundai IONIQ 6 EV recall has been issued out of an abundance of caution.

To address these issues, Hyundai will inspect and replace the seat belt buckle assemblies in the Palisade models and apply adhesive to the charging port door assembly in the IONIQ 6 EVs, all free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Nov. 10, 2025, and owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 for further assistance.

Hyundai has not reported any injuries or accidents related to these recalls so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over either recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Hyundai and Kia recently agreed to a $62.1 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain vehicles were equipped with defective airbag control units.
