  • Why: The Hyundai recall was initiated over concerns the vehicles were equipped with fuel pumps that could fail, resulting in a loss of drive power.
  • Where: The recall affects certain Hyundai vehicle owners nationwide.

Hyundai Motor America issued a recall for more than 50,000 vehicles over concerns they were equipped with fuel pumps that could fail, resulting in a loss of drive power.

The recall involves certain model year 2019-2022 Hyundai Veloster N, 2019-2023 Genesis G70 and 2022-2023 Elantra N and Kona N vehicles.

The automaker says the high-pressure fuel pump assemblies in the recalled vehicles could allow excess fuel to enter the fuel pump due to gradual wear of the fuel control valve plunger.

“An air/fuel mixture that runs too ‘rich’ may result in a reduction or loss of motive power at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Hyundai recall says.

Hyundai dealers to inspect, replace fuel pump assemblies as necessary

Hyundai said it plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers update engine control module software in the recalled vehicles as well as inspect and replace their fuel pump assembly, as necessary.

Recall notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected Hyundai vehicle owners by Sept. 9, 2024, according to the recall.

Drivers with more questions about the recall can contact Hyundai by phone at 1-855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.

Hyundai issued a separate recall earlier this year for more than 13,000 model year 2024 Hyundai Elantra, Venue and Kona vehicles over concerns they could experience a sudden loss of motive power, on account of a short circuit
