  • Where: Consumers nationwide drive Hyundai vehicles.ย

Consumers recently targeted Hyundai Motor America with a pair of class action lawsuits and agreed to a class action settlement with the company. The automaker also announced two recalls..ย

The class action lawsuits involve alleged paint and headlight assembly defects, while the class action settlement ended claims Hyundai and Kia sold vehicles with defects that made them vulnerable to theft.ย ย

Hyundai also issued recalls for concerns involving a fuel pump defect and a sudden loss of motive power for certain Hyundai Genesis vehicles and model year 2020 and newer Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride vehicles, respectively.ย ย

Hyundai recalls new Elantra, Venue, Kona vehicles over power loss defectย

Hyundai issued a recall for 13,511 model year 2024 Hyundai Elantra, Venue and Kona vehicles earlier this month over concerns they could experience a sudden loss of motive power due to a short circuit.ย

According to the recall notice, the automaker says it is concerned the can suffer an electrical short that potentially causes their malfunction indicator light to illuminate and/or the vehicle to suffer a sudden loss of motive power while in operation.ย

โ€œSudden, unexpected loss of motive power could increase the risk of a crash, especially at highย

speeds,โ€ the recall notice states.

Hyundai recalls 2021-2023 Genesis vehicles over fuel pump concerns

Hyundai issued a recall for 31,440 of its 2021-2023 Genesis vehicles in April over concerns an impeller can become deformed under high heat, causing the fuel pump to shut down.ย

โ€œA shutdown of the fuel pump could restrict fuel flow to the engine, resulting in a sudden reduction or loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash,โ€ the Hyundai recall states.ย

The recall affects 12,763 model year 2022-2023 Genesis GV70, 14,414 2021-2023 Genesis GV80, 2,899 2021-2023 Genesis G80 and 1,364 2022-2023 Genesis G90 vehicles.

Vehicles have improperly sealed headlight assemblies, class action claims

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Hyundai in March over claims the automaker sold newer Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade vehicles with improperly sealed headlight assemblies.ย

The lawsuit claims improper sealing on the headlight assemblies of the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride vehicles allowed moisture to enter the headlights, causing them to dim over time.ย

โ€œThe headlight defect endangers drivers, pedestrians and other vehicles because it makes accidents wherein the vehicle strikes a person, animal or object in the roadway more likely,โ€ the Hyundai class action states.ย

The consumer claims Hyundai sent technical service bulletins to authorized repair facilities about the alleged defect but failed to inform consumers about it.ย

Class action says paint on Genesis vehicles prematurely weakens, peels off

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Hyundai in March over claims the paint and color coat on its Genesis vehicles prematurely weakens and peels off, causing pricey repair costs.

The class action lawsuit claims the defect is preventable and that many Genesis owners simply choose to live with the issue as it allegedly costs between $200 and $1,800 to fix the defect.ย

โ€œThose who have complained on sites like genesisowners.com and carcomplaints.com have stated that they reported the clear coat/paint damage and related issues to defendant, only to be ignored and have to take care of the damage themselves, with defendant taking little to no responsibility,โ€ the Hyundai class action states.ย

Drivers ask judge to approve $145M Kia, Hyundai theft settlementย

A class of Hyundai and Kia drivers asked a federal judge in California last month to grant final approval of a $145 million settlement to resolve claims they sold vehicles containing defects that left them vulnerable to theft.ย

The settlement includes at least $80 million in compensation for drivers who suffered losses from car thefts or attempted car thefts and a free software upgrade that will prevent the vehicles from being able to start without a key present.ย

โ€œThe settlement offers significant relief to class members who will receive virtually all the relief that plaintiffs originally sought in this first-of-its-kind action,โ€ class members write in a motion filed April 18.ย

I Am The Owner Of A 2015 Hyundai Accent. The Paint Job Started Peeling On All The Door Handles And Rust Started Eating Out Left Rear Fender. Hyundai Sent Me A Letter Stating That I Am Eligible To Get One Of The Steering Wheel Locks That Go On With A Key To Deter Theft But Nothing Else.

  2. Michael G Meyers says:

My 2011 Sonata limited insurance almost doubled because of the key ignition cars being stolen. I have push-start and it can not be stolen with a USB connecter. These car insurance companies have bundle us up with these vehicles and even sent me a email stating as much. Enough of this price gouging with everyone! We should sue because of the illegal practices. As sue the car maker for affecting us as well! Total BS!

  3. Tessa Lefler says:

I have been unable to find affordable insurance for my Hyundai Sonata bc of the theft issues! I am a single female, I just bought my car 1.5 yrs ago. And had to go off a group policy and get my own policy. Many of the top insurance companies wouldnโ€™t even cover it. Others wanted an astronomical amount!

My 2018 Sonata with 90,000 uses one quart of oil every 1,000 mi which Hyundai says is standard and will do nothing about. However ,after I jump through their hoops (and spend $700 for a motor clean) and IF the rods go they replace engine for life of car. So disappointed. They have lost a 2 time customer. Run and run fast!!

    1. Christine Sipes says:

I have a 2019 Tucson, I keep losing oil and finding insurance is inanely expensive. No one will insurance and if they do itโ€™s expensive.

  6. Theresa Childs says:

  7. Vania Contreras says:

Me and my 6 year old son sustained an accident on 3/28/2024 head on collision by a truck F 150. My airbags on my 2017 sonata hybrid did not deply. They were disconnected upon impact.

2014 Hyundai Sonata. I got the safety features put in my car last Summer and the decals put on the windows. In September I awoke to the sound have my windshield wipers Right before midnight. I ran out to the car and my back window on the passenger side had been broken out my steering wheel, and all the wires from my ignition were hanging straight down my turn signal was broke.. Mission was hanging out ignition with glass everywhere. My heart was just broken because Iโ€™m on Social Security and cannot afford one cent to fix my car. I asked the dealership when they put the safety device in there if I could have one of those locks that you put on the steering wheel. they didnโ€™t have a clue as to what I was talking about. So frustrated I still owe on my car and if I could give it back to you, I would Iโ€™m 69 years old and retired. I couldnโ€™t afford full insurance on my car. The only thing they would pay for is to tow it. I could not take it in to have it fixed because I had no money thank you. My son had to get a friend to try and put it back together enough to where I could still drive it. this has happened. My car has not been the same. Itโ€™s making noises that never made before and it sounds like the bottoms gonna fall out. I wish you could give me a different car and take this one back. This has just absolutely broke my heart. I called the police, they gave me a report and told me they had just been on a call up the street where someone stole a Kia I have several pictures. This is the most unreal thing that I have ever experienced. Iโ€™m not happy at all. ๐Ÿ˜”

I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson that has lost power while driving and then a loud clanking. Sound coming from the engine area. It also blew oil up onto my windshield. I want to be a part of class and on this matter. But I keep getting told that my then number does not match any recalls. Or class action suits as of yes, yes, please.
    Help.

    1. Marcus says:

We are stuck with a 2018 Tucson that uses 1/2 quart per 1,000 miles and the DCT has failed. 2nd owner, 19k out of warranty, Hyundai wonโ€™t even discuss it with us. Got my first Hyundai in 1987 when i graduated, but they are straight trash now.
