Honda recall overview:
- Who: Honda is recalling more than 250,000 Honda and Acura vehicles.
- Why: A defect in the brake pedal pivot pin may cause the pedal to shift out of position.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
Honda has initiated a recall of more than 250,000 vehicles, including specific models of the Honda Pilot and Acura TLX and MDX, due to a brake pedal defect that could increase the risk of accidents. The recall affects vehicles in the United States.
The recall, announced on June 16, by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) involves 2021-2025 Acura TLX, 2023-2025 Acura MDX and 2023-2025 Honda Pilot models.
The issue stems from a brake pedal pivot pin that was not properly secured, potentially causing the pedal to shift out of position and impairing the driver’s ability to brake effectively. “A brake pedal that shifts out of position can prevent the driver from applying the brakes as intended, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” the recall notice states.
Honda plans to notify vehicle owners by mail starting July 28, 2025, and will inspect and replace the brake pedal assembly free of charge.
Brake pedal defect poses safety risks, recall notice warns
The defect in the brake pedal pivot pin could lead to significant safety risks, as it may prevent drivers from applying the brakes as needed, increasing the likelihood of crashes.
The recall notice emphasizes the importance of addressing this issue promptly to ensure driver and passenger safety.
Honda is taking proactive measures to address the issue by offering free inspections and replacements of the brake pedal assembly at authorized dealerships. This action aims to rectify the defect and ensure that all affected vehicles meet safety standards.
For more information about the Honda brake pedal recall, vehicle owners can contact Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Additionally, the NHTSA’s website provides resources for checking vehicle recalls using the vehicle identification number.
Honda states it has not received any reports of injuries related to the Acura recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
This is the second recall to be issued for Honda and Acura vehicles in 2025. In February, Honda recalled 290,000 Acura MDX Type-S, Honda Pilot and Acura TLX Type-S vehicles because of a software error that could cause the engine to stall or lose power.
