Honda Acura MDX recall overview:

  • Who: Honda is recalling more than 152,000 Acura MDX vehicles.
  • Why: The recall is due to potential lighting failures that could increase the risk of a crash.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Honda has announced a recall of more than 152,000 Acura MDX vehicles from model years 2014 to 2020 due to a defect that could cause light failure, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents.

The recall was issued on April 17 under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ID 25V-259. It specifically targets the exterior and interior lighting components of the Acura MDX vehicles.

According to the recall details, moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assembly and wiring harness, leading to failures in the lid lights, position lights, license plate lights and taillights.

“Vehicle lights that fail to illuminate can decrease visibility and increase the risk of a crash,” the recall notice states.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters after May 27, informing them of the necessary repairs.

Acura MDX lighting failure increases crash risk

The recall notice explains that dealers will inspect the wiring and install a fuse harness, replace the lid light and repair the body dust sealer as needed, all at no cost to the vehicle owners.

This remedy is crucial as Honda addresses the potential for moisture to cause significant lighting failures, which could lead to dangerous driving conditions. “Dealers will inspect the wiring and install a fuse harness, replace the lid light and repair a seal if necessary,” the recall states.

Additionally, vehicles that were repaired under a prior recall (19V-256) will need to undergo new repairs as well.

Honda is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of its customers by offering free repairs for the affected vehicles.

The company has advised owners to contact Acura’s customer service at 1-800-382-2238 for further assistance and information regarding the recall or to visit the official recall webpage.

No injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with this recall so far. Honda is not currently facing any legal action over this issue, but Top Class Actions monitors recalls closely, as they can sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In January, Honda issued a recall for more than 290,000 Acura MDX Type-S, Honda Pilot and Acura TLX Type-S vehicles for a software error that can cause an engine stall or loss of power. Last year, Acura agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims its hands-free system is defective.

Both of my fog lights recently went out due to moisture and my Acura MDX 2017 began to stall and hesitated not sure if there’s a connection between the two

2017 MDX’s are trouble!! Ours has been. New motor in 2023 because of premature bearing failure however it was NOT covered in the recent bearing recall (issued 2023) even though it was the same year and model as vehicles affected. Cost us $10,000! 5 months before that the U-joint went out. I learned after doing a little research that the 2017’s are one of the years it’s better to avoid. Funny because the 2018 MDX although identical is considered one of the better MDX years. I wish I would’ve known before we bought our 2017. We still have it with the used engine we replaced with 60,000 less miles than the original) For the last couple of weeks something has been rattling in the front end. The car has 150k miles on it. We had a 2003 Honda Pilot that we neglected horribly, not changing the oil half the time just terrible! It had 315k miles and NEVER HAD ONE SINGLE ISSUE. EVER! Other than breaks, rotors, normal wear and tear. Not until my wife was hit in the side so we bought the 2017 MDX. The 2017 MDX has been babied and still costed $11k in half the time.

I have a 2014 Acura Mdx i noticed my lights aren’t that bright as they should be. Could it be that water is leaking inside causing damage to the electrical components.

  3. Summer L Ibarra-Oreskovich says:

I dealt with Byte. 2 years EORTH of there scrappy retainers. Now they want to take me too court because I stop paying them. And even had 2 dentist say toy stop using it. They were ruining my teeth more. Its took like 5x grom the begining to get them to fit. They were garbage

    1. Paul says:

What are you they gonna do about the fact that their light design and aiming blinds every other driver increasing chances of an accident?
