Google Fraudulent Puppy Sale Scheme Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Google LLC filed a lawsuit against Nche Noel Ntse.
  • Why: Google claims Ntse breached its terms of service by using its services to allegedly run a fraudulent puppy-selling operation.
  • Where: The lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

Google has filed a lawsuit against a man it is accusing of using its services to perpetrate a fraudulent puppy-selling scheme.

The tech giant claims the man, Nche Noel Ntse, is breaching its terms of service and harming its reputation by allegedly running a scam puppy-selling operation.

Google argues Ntse uses products such as Google Voice, Gmail and Google Ads in his alleged scheme, which the company says involves selling puppies to customers who then never receive them.

In perpetrating the alleged scheme, Ntse, who is from Cameroon, is taking advantage of an increased shift toward online shopping created in part by the COVID-19 pandemic, the complaint argues.

“Defendant’s exploitative and malicious sham pet adoption scheme abuses Google products to prey on vulnerable victims during an unprecedented pandemic,” the lawsuit states.

Google says Ntse’s alleged scam is “particularly nefarious” since it “not only relies on one-on-one communications but also exploits the joy of pet adoption, resulting in both emotional harm and financial loss.”

Alleged Puppy Scam Financially Harmed Google, Hurt Its Reputation, Lawsuit Claims

The alleged scam also causes Google financial harm, it claims, with the company arguing it interferes with its relationship with both users and potential users and harms its reputation.

Further, Google claims the alleged scam has also forced the company to expend financial resources “in excess of $75,000” to investigate and put an end to Ntse’s “harmful activities.”

Google says it was tipped off to the alleged scheme in September after receiving a complaint from the American Association of Retired Persons on behalf of a consumer in South Carolina who claimed to have been ripped off while attempting to adopt a puppy off a website allegedly run by Ntse.

The consumer claimed he had sent $700 in gift cards and a $1,500 delivery fee while attempting to adopt a puppy through the website familyhomebassetthounds.com, which Google says is owned by Ntse, according to the complaint.

Google says Ntse was also the owner of a website called moonrocksmand.com, which it says pretended to sell prescription opioid cough syrup and marijuana.
