- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
General Motors has issued a recall for more than 62,000 Chevrolet Silverado trucks due to a defect in the brake pressure sensor assembly that could result in a short circuit and increase the risk of fire.
The recall, announced June 25 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects various models of the Chevrolet Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD from the years 2019 to 2024.
The recall affects a total of 62,468 vehicles, with the majority being 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 5500 HD trucks manufactured between Jan. 20, 2023, and March 19, 2024. The issue arises from a potential leak of brake fluid into the brake pressure switch, which can cause an electrical short and subsequent overheating of the circuit.
“Vehicles prior to 2019 model year use a different design and are not affected by this recall,” the company stated.
Drivers should park vehicles outside and away from buildings, recall advises
GM has advised owners of the affected vehicles to park them outside and away from buildings until the necessary repairs are completed. “Dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harnesses for free,” the recall notice states.
The company has already informed dealers about the recall as of June 12 and plans to notify vehicle owners by mail by July 28. Once the repair solution is available, a second notification will be sent to the owners.
The recall follows a previous repair under recall number 23V266, which must now be updated with the new repair. GM is taking corrective measures by offering free replacement of the brake pressure switch wire harnesses for all affected vehicles.
For more information, consumers can contact GM’s customer assistance at 1-866-467-9700 and inquire about recall number N242482680. Alternatively, they can reach out to the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for further details on recall number 25V390.
GM says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Earlier, a group of consumers filed a class action lawsuit against GM, alleging that its recall remedy for an engine defect in 6.2-liter V-8 engines forces vehicle owners to pay hundreds of dollars more for gasoline.
