General Motors issued a recall for more than 70,000 model year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles over concerns their chrome front grille deflectors may fracture over time.
The recall involves model year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a chrome front grill deflector and produced between Nov. 9, 2021, and Sept. 29, 2022.
The automaker said it is concerned that the attachments that hold the front grille deflectors in place may fracture, resulting in grille detachment while driving.
“A detached front grille deflector may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash,” the GM grille deflector recall says.
GM currently working on developing remedy for Sierra 1500 recall
GM says it is currently developing a remedy for the recall and will provide reimbursement to owners for repairs. It estimates to mail notification letters to owners by March 24.
The GM grille deflector recall does not affect model year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with non-chrome grille deflectors.
Vehicle owners with questions about the recall can call GM’s customer service for GMC at 1-800-462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
The NHTSA launched a preliminary investigation into nearly 878,000 GM vehicles on Jan. 17 following reported incidents of engine failure in certain vehicles.
