General Motors is recalling certain diesel trucks and SUVs over concerns that their rear wheels can suddenly lock up.

The recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Nov. 7. It applies to the following vehicles:

  • 2021 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV
  • 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
  • 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
  • 2021 GMC Yukon XL
  • 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 1500
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 2500/3500
  • 2021 GMC Yukon
  • 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

According to the recall, the transmission control valve in the vehicles may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock up.

“Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash,” the recall states.

GM recorded 1,888 field reports alleging a “lock up” potentially related to this issue before early August 2024. GM said it also identified 11 alleged incidents potentially related to the condition, including vehicles veering off the roadway and, in some cases, incurring minor property damage.

“Three minor injuries were also reported, none of which were associated with a collision,” the recall says.

To fix the issues, dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge., the recall states.

GM will provide a “special coverage program” to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 9.

Meanwhile, GM is recalling nearly 450,000 of its vehicles over concerns their electronic brake control software could fail to display a warning light.

I received a recall notice January 2025 that my truck is definitely affected by this recall event. It is a 2020 Silverado with the 3l Duramax engine. As a person who frequently drives at highway speeds this is more than a little concerning. My truck has just over 75k miles on it. I would like to join in a class action lawsuit if someone could point me in the right direction. I have the letter in front of me right now. They must have expanded the recall since my truck is not listed above. Please reach out to me to advise the next step.

I recently purchased a 2024 Cadillac Escalade with a Diesel engine. My SUV contains the same 10 speed transmission which is under recall but a different year.
I am concerned as to whether I can even drive it as it could lead to accident that could cause injury, death, or property damage. I paid $132,000 for it and it is sitting in my driveway with only 30 miles on it. I reached out to the dealership where I purchased it to find out whether it is safe to drive, but I have not received an answer yet! I am considering hiring an attorney to see whether or not this vehicle would be considered a lemon and I’m entitled to get my money back. also looking at possible civil litigation concerning the fact that the transmission manufacturer Cadillac and GMC were aware that these transmissions could cause a lock up of the vehicle two years before mine was built! I feel that Cadillac should be held accountable for endangering my life and others and also they were enriched by selling me a vehicle with a faulty transmission and not telling me!
